I recently bought MDK and found out that it is the censored version. In the screenshots on the GOG.COM website I see green "blood" and actual headshots, where in the version I downloaded and run I get blue "blood" and the headshots are censored as well...

My question is, is this expected behaviour? I live in the Netherlands, and the version I bought in the shop a long time ago is also censored.

How do I get the uncensored version from GOG.COM?

When I read this I was surprised as I only very recently played it and hadn't noticed. So I re-installed and gave it a try and what do I find, blue triangles pinging off enemies (the 'blood' effect).

Now, when I tried this I was using the 3DFX mode. I can't use the D3D mode as I have an nVidia GPU which causes issues with the game with invisble and flashing textures making the game unplayable, so I only have 3DFX or software. I decided to give the software mode a try and the 'blood' was green! So there is your answer. Launch the software mode.

Being as the game has been on GOG for quite some time and nGlide was only very recently added, those screenshots you seen on the game page are software mode.

There is a shortcut to software mode provided but for me it kept giving an error along the lines of MDK_soft.exe could not be launched. However, if I just went into the installation folder and double-clicked the executable it worked fine. Give it a try and let us know if it works for you. My guess is that the 3DFX version is always blue 'blood'.
UPDATE: I did some digging around and found a thread from before GOG provided the 3DFX version using nGlide where users were trying to get 3DFX mode. They downloaded the cracked 3DFX executable from GameCopyWorld and used a Glide wrapper with it as GOG hadn't provided one at that time.

Well, I've just visited GameCopyWorld and found the cracked executable and I have good news. It has the green 'blood' and I've confirmed that I can shoot heads off enemies. Why GOG have provided an uncensored software mode but a censored 3DFX mode I don't know.

But yes, if you want uncensored then get that cracked executable from GCW. I can't link to it as it is most likely against the GOG forum rules, but GOG do use cracked executables where they need to.
Good find! Thank you for the info! The software mode is indeed the uncensored version, unlike the 3DFX version.

I didn't try the software mode before, because I though that it will be censored as well... Guess I was wrong :)

I also can't run the Direct3D version on my AMD HD6870. All the surfaces are not visible. So can't check if that version is also censored.

I still recommend getting the cracked 3DFX executable from GCW though, as then you get the 3DFX enhancements (albeit very little in the way of graphical improvements). Can't remember if software mode gives you the in-level save via the F2 key, but the 3DFX version definitely does.

I've sent a support request to GOG to ask them why the 3DFX executable they've provided is censored when the software one isn't. Hopefully they'll replace the censorship with the 3DFX executable.
Wow thanks! I never got to play MDK when it was new so I had no idea I was playing a censored version.
Good news! Since I contacted them and the info was forwarded to GOG's product team, GOG have updated the 2.0 installer and it now has an uncensored 3DFX mode.
Cool! A big thanks to you and the GOG team for getting it sorted out!
Great! Thanks for both you and the GOG team for all the help!
