I really want to relive this classic on my computer, I picked up the MDK combo while it was on sale, and while MDK works just fine aside from one minor progression bug and a few textural hiccups MDK2 is basically unplayable.

Right at the title screen the menu is a garbled mess of polygons and strewn shapes, and going to the options menu crashes the game. When starting it seems fine with the comic progression but soon it all bugs out again and freezes, forcing me to reset my computer.

I've heard my software may be "too advanced" and incompatible, I'm running Windows 8.1 with an Intel HD Graphics 4400 card, with 1792 MB memory.

There is the MDK2 HD version which may work better, but I've heard so much negative things about it that I thought I'd look at GOG's better track record with older games, and especially this being much cheaper.

If anyone has any advice please send, I won't have any qualms over buying this game twice as long as it works the second time.

Yup lol. I knew a friend who wanted System Shock. I advised him to get the GOG version but he wanted Steam and as such a bug was triggered and he lost all his save data.

I've had this happen for me as well with both Commandos and Beyond Good & Evil. Couldn't get either Steam version to work no matter how much I tried, and the GOG versions work beautifully without any extra effort. Love this website.
