There was a mention of it here more than a year ago, but no mention since. I'm just wondering if it is a good game now that they've released v0.3.17.

Fingers crossed, I haven't played a new 4x game in ages!!

No, I didn't even know this project existed, does ti have MP?
Like NightK, I hadn't even heard of it before. The Wikiarticle makes it sound like the game is still in alpha with more bugs than features implemented. :) But I don't know if that is reflective of the newest version released.
Yeah, I think it might be a good idea to hold off until beta.

@NightK I don't think it has MP, but let's hope it's in the pipeline.

Aye from the Roadmap it seems like 0.4 is when they'll start implementing a lot of cool features. Thanks for sharing this, I'll probably keep an eye on it the project. (http://www.freeorion.org/index.php/Roadmap)

And thank you. I didn't look at this page because I didn't understand what roadmap means (in this context, anyway).

The game is up to 4.7 with 4.3 as last stable release. The game seems to completely change every few years, though mostly in some small details that render prior strategy and tactics obsolete. So 4..7 has a completely different feel from the earlier 4.3, 4.4, etc

This game is loosely inspired by Masters of Orion. It is trying to be it own game, and takes very few things from the old.
So it is not a reboot. I have played both, and both were/are fun.

They plan to get up to 4.8 soon. Progress is steady but slow. Still for a fun 4X space game, it is good.
Latest stable version is 0.4.7.1. If you use Linux you need to compile yourself as the newest version otherwise is 0.4.3 = many years old. New testing versions usually out once a week. The game certainly is playable and has multi-player and is more suitable for mp than MoO2 or MoO3, the latter being the game that inspired them to try making a better game. No tactical combat on purpose, makes for better multi-player games at least.

Oooh, this is an impressive necro, but much appreciated! Is single player worth playing now? With these very dedicated home-grown projects the emphasis is usually on multi player...
I personaly think it is worth playing also if you care nothing for multi-player.
