I've only been playing for a few hours, as Humans, but I've noticed that the alternate ship Models are not actually represented in the game. I have two Cruiser designs, one the "default" , one using the "Alternate Cruiser" model, the latter stuffed full of Fighter Bays, appropriately named 'Carrier'.

But the 'Carrier' uses the default model's icon in the Blueprint and ship Construction menus, in the Fleet window, and on the map.

I experimented with Destroyers and Frigates using the Alternate models as well. Same thing: they appear with the Default models in the actual gameplay portion of the game.

Honestly, it's a minor issue, but small things like this make the game feel rather incomplete as yet. Is this a known issue or something strange I alone am experiencing?

I noted the same thing. They were not distinguished on the map. However, in combat I could see the alternate models. I like being able to tell my specialized ships, like carriers, from the others on the map- but this is not game breaking for me, but yes it feel incomplete. Hopefully they know about it now. :)
