I've traditionally liked high elves because the archers are amazing, but I just played through one of my favorite games of MOM ever--with halflings! Those slingers are KICK ASS, especially in the beginning. I decided to chose the special attribute that attracts heroes and artifacts, and depended on them once my slingers where not enough. It was great fun and a nice switch from my usual game. I am always amazed that such an old game has so much depth and can always surprise.

Stryder: I like Nomad's but that's because I love Ranger's not just MoM Rangers either, my first MMO character was a Ranger, that's where they gained a special place in my heart.

sourceelement: I have to second the Nomad love. Set up a nice selection of cities on a mid-sized continent and then connect them all with roads - watch the money just POUR in!

Of course you have to take over a city that can build engineers because nomad cities can't build engineers which make the roads.
Strongest: Halfling (great economy, excellent slingers) on Arcanus, Dwarves on Myrror (better economy, awesome hammerhands)
Most fun: Nomads (pathfinding YAY), Barbarians (thrown is fun) and Klackons (for some strange reason)
I just played through with the Klackons and the bonus they get to production allowed me to start making stag beetles early. Once I had nine beetles I cast wraith on them and then I steamrolled the rest of the wizards.

That's pretty much all Klackons are good for - quick teching to a semi-decent ultimate unit followed by the rapid chain-gibbing of every other wizard in the game. It works, but there are other races I find more effectively pursue the same strategy, with fewer disadvantages.
Well, OK, Klackons are also good for challenge runs.
I usually play dark elves for their power and warlocks plus their ability to defend cities successfully even with spearman.
Or I go with halflings for their growth, food and for their slingers.
Just recently made my first victory on Impossible using halflings.
These are my favourite races, I also play dwarves or Trolls sometimes
My Favorite is the Beastmen. I never heard anyone else claim them as a fave. But I like the fact that they're balanced and a good all around Race that can even produce magic with a decent rate of Growth. They're a fun race that can go with any magic type well.
I also like Halflings for they're bonuses and Slingers. (oh and Imagining an Army of the little guys is a fun little Image.)
Nomads are a fun group with some good units and a bonus to gold that works great with the Alchemy pick.
I have to say I love the Paladins! (overall, I'd say then, that humans are my favs)
Dwarves also rule, and I like the draconians for fast early expansion/exploration too.
I think the nomad gold bonus is way overrated. If you look at how much it actually generates, the effect is tiny especially early on. Effectively, it gives you the bonus that you could have obtained through roads, coasts and rivers instead.
Draconians become much more interesting when you play with a house rule disallowing exploration with Magic Spirit. When that is allowed, exploration becomes a non-issue in most games as they're plenty for all your needs.
Just played through another game with dwarves, and I have to say that they're the most powerful bar none. Paladins are cool, but they just take so long to roll out.
I love the bugs! Stag Beetles are great, and adorable. Paladins and Griffins are fun but take too many buildings to produce. Although on Impossible I do have to use the humans for the Paladin magic resist.
Hi all!
I re-bought MoM last night and i must say its still awesome :D
I bought it when it first came out back in the days and i played it alot back then.
For the favourtie races i must say Halflings (as many of you also think) and their kick a** slingers!
Also the draconians are fun to play.
I have not played alot of the other races but im going to try them all now :)
My all time favorite race pick would have to be Dark Elves when combined with either full life+warlord or sorcery picks. The life option let's you rollout new outposts with stream of life which is a BROKEN fast way to expand. Sorcery and dark elves = easy infinite time stop which although it get's boring just never ceases being fun to pull off in an impossible game.

My fav runner ups would either be high men or dwarves.
