I'm under the sneaking suspicion that the random number generator in this game (or at least my copy of this game) is somewhat biased against me.

Most recent, glaring example is a 1v1 magic spirit fight. My spirit got beat within an inch of its life (2 hits left) before I started kiting for the rest of the battle (because I seem to almost always lose the unit when I just retreat a solo guy without running out the 50 turns), while the enemy spirit took 2 hits of damage total.

Hard to tell if my memory is just kind of biased, but it seems like I lose to units unless I use them, and then suddenly they are made of paper.

Have any of you seen anything like this? The difficulty setting (I'm currently playing on Hard) doesn't affect this, does it?
People do tend to notice bad runs more than good ones. That being said, most AIs are somewhat biased against the player; it's an easy way for the programmers to sneak in an extra serving of difficulty.

I've noticed it some in MoM, but quite a bit more in other games which have an in-game option to turn dice rolls on.
