I didn't think any MoM forums existed anymore! I used to chat on a forum of an old MoM 2 rally website 10 or so years ago but after that vanished I hadn't seen any others until now when I discovered the Realms Beyond MoM forum and the kind folks there told me about here!

Eight months ago I re-installed MoM in Dosbox and loaded my old savegames from 1998 and picked up right where I left off conquering Myrran and then invading the earth like world. I spent a lot of my teenage years in the 90s playing MoM so it was so much fun to play it again all these years later. When I finally finished my game I decided to make a tribute page on my retro website paying tribute to MoM along with listing the great many successful & sadly unsuccessful MoM related fan remake/sequel projects out there to make sure that they are never forgotten and can inspire talented MoM fans to create new MoM projects in the future. I also created a list of other games out there that are similar to MoM as there are many spiritual sequels these days. For these lists I collected pics, vids, demos, and information for as many of them as possible. I could use some help from the community with this list as I'm sure there's more I don't know about. This is my latest summary of the website list below.

Normally when I do these pages I get a lot of help from the forum communities to find all the long lost projects out there but until now I thought there was no MoM communities left so I've been searching on my own. Now that I've found this place I bet there's a whole bunch of projects you guys know that I don't. So if you know of a game series I've missed that's very similar to MoM, a fan game based on MoM, or a large scale mod project related to MoM please let me know! :)

Well, it's nice to see that good old MoM is still in saddle :)

I don't like 3D in strategy games (http://www.gog.com/forum/age_of_wonders_series/does_aow3_add_anything/post10)
so I can't play most of "successors" with as much pleasure as I played the original MoM.

Of course, AoW series is as close to original MoM as possible (I don't like AoW3 though for dubious design decisions and for 3D mostly). Eador (Genesis, not MotBW) is a good game in the same vein. If you've mentioned Balor of the Evil Eye - so what about King of Dragon Pass? (IMO, these two games have very few common with MoM though).

The title you should add to your list - it's without any doubt Dominions series (http://illwinter.com/dom4/index.html). It's province-based (like Eador, though more precise - it's Eador is province-based like Dominions :), 'cause Dominions series is since 2001) and it has AI-controlled battles (though pre-planned by a player) but it has strong similarities with MoM in terms of units, races, spells and other stuff (though its playable "nations" are based on various mythologies of real nations of Earth - greek, celtic, nordic, japanese and so on).
The overall "feel" while playing Dominions is very similar of that one while playing MoM.

I'm playing Worlds of Magic.

I decided to see if I could get an MoM experience out of it because they based the game on Master of Magic.

IAfter an insane amount of time I managed to play a few games the way I play MoM.

Mom-like is deep inside worlds of Magic.

At high difficulty, all colossal worlds it can't handle it.

In other words
Medium sized worlds

Hard difficulty:
all the negative torts,
all Life, Life mastery, 7 earth picks

Cartographer(to see the entire first map),Alchemist (you will need mana to gold ), Archmage :(to start fast extra mana.

I use dark elves and keep sending out settlers.(same as MoM mana per population)

It took me a long time to play some Master of Magic in this game, but it is there, unlike any other game.

WoM tries for too much
But inside MoM players can scratch between the shoulder blades.

I think they made a huge mistake marketing it through Steam.

A behemoth of a game like this needs communication and people talking back and forth.

Yes Steam is the big thing but GoG is exploding andf Wom is trying to talk to the good old gamers.

Big mistake I think.

WoM is seriously there, but just playing iy without lots of time and patience won't let it shine.

you just can't say it all in a post.

Low level madness .
A low level Draconian and a low level cleric can buff a low level tactical summoned mob to high output to win a usually unwinnable battle .

Of course the opportunity and realization have to both happen.

Instead of looking up all the MoM mods I think it easier to just ask: Does any mod exist that allows you to disable Spell of Mastery? I really prefer a (possibly indefinitely) prolonged game with endless fighting instead of racing towards that ultimate spell.

Before you point it out, I have tried the "Spell Blast" and the "hunt down and kill the wizard before they finish leaving them possibly to return by Spell of Return" approaches, but it gets tiresome, and once a wizard is able to cast SoM they'll concentrate on nothing else.

A quick google search turned up a thread with some links (that I didn't check) about hex editing. How badly do you want to turn the spell off? ;)

I didn't see any such mod on a very quick pass, but you might be able to turn something up if you get to Google digging.

Thanks for the response. I was down the Google road a few years back regarding this, and I then found what you've linked to. But hex-editing is something I've never done, and I don't really have the nerve to, especially when those who have tried return with incomplete and less than certain reports of success, or lack thereof.

My hope is simply that some mod or patch among their multitudes had a ready to use solution.

There might be something out there, somewhere, but I don't know where it is. Good luck!

Some days ago I started playing Master of Magic again and was wondering if someone would gather a list similar to this one, since I am a big fan of the genre.

My most sincere gratitude to all of you!

It's really not that hard. It's wise to be cautious, but as long as you always, always keep an unedited back-up copy of whatever you're working on, you shouldn't have any problem.

If you screw it up and it doesn't work, just toss it out and restore the back-up.

Thanks mate I'll check that one out, I hadn't heard of it before now.

Been a while so I thought I'd update the list..

Created a new Official MoM games section/category to better match the website now that we're getting all these official releases from Slitherine. Naturally original MoM itself was already there but now I've added the old Playstation 1 conversion Civizard, the new official Master of Magic Remake, and copied over Caster of Magic I & II from the fan section since Slitherine has made them official addons. By request I've also added Deity Empires to the very similar games section too.

Some of these updates haven't been made on my MoM website yet but I'll get to it eventually. At least this list is up to date again though lol!
