I love MoM and have been playing it for a long time, however for some reason now I am experiencing a weird graphics bug. My cursor will blink in and out as I move it accross the screen and lag just a tad. Also when I go from the spell Book back to the map screen it does it pixel by pixel and takes about 30 seconds to get out of it. I have messed with the settings in the DoS Box to try to fix it however have been unable to do so. Any ideas?

Thanks
Is this happening even if you start a new game?

What settings did you change before this began to happen?

Is it possible that Windows itself has altered one of its settings (forcing compatibility or the like), and/or have you changed drivers at about the time this started?

I am having this issue as well. I am playing this on a older computer that I never played MoM on before so am playing with the "Default" settings. It happens each game as well although I have not even more than one or two lol.

The pixel by pixel thing happens quite often but predictably and takes between 10-15seconds. It happens when I close unit or city details with right clicking, it happens after I change my Tax Rate, and most annoyingly it happens when I change my Build Order just to name some of the most easily triggered.

I am using WinXPsp3 and have used this on another computer with no problem. My Video card is a ATI Rage 128. I have a 2Ghz processor and 512MB RAM.

Sadly my main comp is on the fritz so have to use this one until I get it fixed.

If anyone knows how to help me fix this problem plz help.

In the interest of getting you running faster, I'd say contact support now. It seems odd, because on my old machine, the game generally ran faster.

Do you have a video card conflict? Like, two video cards installed?

Do you have it running windowed?

Actually I had it running in Full Screen Mode but for your question I also tested it in the "windowed" mode you get by pressing Alt+Enter and in the smaller screen I don't have an issue.

As for Video Cards afaik each computer has a built in one that comes standard and usually a better one that they "upgrade" to separately if they don't buy a high end machine right off. So yes I did buy upgrade to the ATI Card a long time ago.

Ah well for now I have downgraded my Screen Res to 800x600 so that the Windowed Screen is larger as a work around so that I can just enjoy it for now until my good comp gets fixed or I get a new one. The pixel thing was really annoying as I play Art/Rune Build and it was happening every time I got or cast a new artifact.

Did you try a different Graphic mode, output= line, in the main .conf file or through the GOG DOSBox utility?

I have not altered anything as I don't actually know how and have never needed to in the past.

So how do I go about changing the Graphic Mode?

By directly editing the appropriate .conf file or by using the GOG DOSBox utility in the Start Menu under the MoM entry.

It's pretty easy if you poke around in the DOSBox .conf files. IIRC the instructions are included in those files. Well, minimal instructions, at least.

I'm running MoM on XP SP3 as well, and I've never had any problem like you guys are describing.
Thanks for the advice guys I have now solved the problem. I did it the following way.

Start/All Programs/GoG.com/Master of Magic/Graphic Mode Setup.

This opens a very very very simple little dialog box that shows you that the current Graphic Mode is "Overlay" I changed this in the drop down box to "Direct3D" hit Launch and it now works fine.

There were 3 other options I didn't even bother to try but they may also help.

For what it's worth, I've had better performance with OpenGL than Direct3D.
