Let me give you a short introduction as I had some initial problems with the game myself:
In Windows 10 you might change the file "MajXPrefs"
located here: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My Games\MajestyHD
with your notepad as follows:
<DataGroups>
<PixWidth>1366</PixWidth>
<PixHeight>768</PixHeight>
<PixDepth>32</PixDepth>
<Windowed>0</Windowed>
<DebugFlags>0</DebugFlags>
<VSync>1</VSync>
<BlitMode>1</BlitMode>
<IntroVideo>1</IntroVideo>
</DataGroups>
In case you face low frame rates, here are some possibilities to solve this issue:
1) Change to <IntroVideo>0</IntroVideo>
2) Simply alt-tabbing out of the game (back to the desktop) and back into the game fixes the sluggish framerate.
3) Change the start command to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Majesty Gold HD\MajestyHD.exe" -useddblit -blitmovietobackground
4) Make the game use only one core of your CPU. After you start the game, open up the task manager, go to details, find majestyHD.exe, Right Click it, select "Set Affinity" and choose only "CPU 0". Turn off everything else.
Ok, now to gameplay, as it is somehow hidden in the manual (page 22ff.) and not 100% intuitive.
1. You have to build the "Guilds" and / or "Temples" to hire "Heroes".
2. Of course for this you need gold. But I am sure you will figure out how to get it.
3. Select an enemy (yellow color on minimap and yellow health bar on main screen) or a building you want your heroes to destroy and press "SPACE" key. Note, you have to set a reward, the initial value of 0 gold can be changed in the "Palace" menu, but also changed per target.
4. You cant control your Heroes. They will level up and seek for gold and glory but you can motivate them by the rewards and you can upgrade building like the Blacksmith to provide them with better weapons and armors, and upgrade markets for items (like healing potions, rings).
Essential keys:
< and > to slow down and speed up gameplay
SPACE to select a unit or a building and set a reward for destroying it
BACKSPACE to center Main Map on the Hero who spoke last
That is what I have figured out so far. BTW the game website still works: www.majestyquest.com
