Although I save the game several times while playing, after quitting and then resuming the game, I can't find my saved game. Each time I'm required to start from the beginning. This is quite tiresome. What am I doing wrong? Can this game not be saved? Sure it can be, as I'm the only person who brought up this issue here. Still I'd be glad if someone told me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

Btw after saving I always check the slots to be sure if the game is really saved. I sometimes even load the saved game to double check. It always works. The problem occurs when I quit the game and start to play again after 1-2 days.

Because the game is made with Flash, the files it uses for saved games might be deleted due to the privacy settings of your browser, or tools like CCleaner that delete files they consider temporary and/or useless.

You can check this forum post for information. Make backups of your saves or type "REBOL" in the start menu for a debug screen that allows you to pick your level.

This could also be useful, as the debug mode can take you to places, but you might not have all the things you should have in your inventory.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Jesus, I just came on looking for this. Nice to see the reason and how to avoid in the future.

Even though this is a stupid way to store the players save games it would have been at least a little helpful if the game or GOG could have said something either on the product page or even a little pop up when the game starts so all of us who do such rare things as delete cookies or use CC Cleaner would not get a frustrating surprise.
I used the external "saves" program to save the game. It worked fine for a few days, then I just tried to restore my saved games, and it says there aren't any. So I'm back at square one. What a shitty save game design.

That said...I love the art. It is my favorite style of art hands down.

EDIT:

The "rebol" solution works. Launch the game, wait until it says "Start Game" or whatever it says, then just type it out. I thought he meant type it in the windows start menu and thought it was an external program or something that came with the game due to this problem.

Interesting forum topic. I had first played this game on my brother's steam account. About half way through all my save games got deleted. It was weird as I had saved without difficulty for the first half of the game over multiple play sessions. I got frustrated and didn't try to start all over again fearing the same thing would happen.

Now a year later, it was on sale here at GOG so I said what the hell. This time I played through the entire game without any issues. Very unusual. This is some bug with game and not GOG's fault.
Well, glad there is an explanation but I probably won't finish this game. Not too keep on using a debugger to level-skip, and it looks like my saves are gone forever. I will go ahead and disagree with previous poster that this is not GoG's responsibility. It is sold by GoG, hence it is their "fault". There should be a rather large warning or disclaimer to avoid this. It's not hard to avoid if you were aware of it beforehand.

I finally got a chance to play this yesterday and after some play time and a save, reaching what I now know to be level 7, but I came back today to find that my save was gone faster than money put into Stan's bank account in South Park. REBOL is a blessing and you deserve a cake of your choosing.

This solution needs to be stickied and should have been years ago. Someone at CD Projekt Group get on the sticky and the cake!

Has this been fixed with the new engine?
I mean, it sais new custom engine. So I guess it isn't Flash now.
It was very frustrating having the savegames getting deleted all the time.
