I received this game from the GOG giveaway and was able to play it yesterday.
Today when I started the game it froze my PC. I tried to verify/repair the game using Galaxy but it didn't help.

The game appears to be working though, when I start the game and click away while letting it start and load up. If I do click/select anything in the game (such as select any of the menu options at the startup menu) my whole PC freezes and stops reacting to anything else than hard reset.

Try to start the game without the Galaxy Client, i.e. invoke the .exe file of the game directly.
There seems to be an issue with Galaxy that may be fixed already.
