I just got MAX from GOG and have a simple question. Do computer players automatically ally with eachother in custom games, or am I just having issues? Its been many many years since I played this game so I really can't remember.

I've never had the computer players ally with each other. Also I never saw an option to ally in game. If teams can be formed, it would be before the game starts.
Yes, they are always allied and you can't change that.

Afaik this was changed in 1.04, and 1.03 didn't have this. The AI was improved in from 1.03 to 1.04. you can see in the patch notes.

Here is the patch 1.03 (engl only)

Really? So in the GOG-Version the AI is not allied?
Or can you adjust the settings to "allied" and "not allied"?
If you use the 1.03 executable the ally doesn't ally =)
