Hi,

When I launch LotR I, my DOSBOX screen stays black, I can hear the music.

Anyone knows a solution?
This question / problem has been solved by Ketzerfreundimage
I am also experiencing this same error. I have Windows 7 64-bit installed.

Dosbox pops up, I hear music playing but there's no image.
Have you tried running it as administrator? I actually have the opposite problem where LoTR 1 comes up and I get visuals but no sound. I think it was solved by someone else by running as administrator.

I had or better still have this problem, but I can circumvent it by switching to the desktop as soon as the DOSbox launches in fullscreen (Alt + TAB or Windows Key + D), it now should run in a window and the game starts with graphics, you may now switch back to fullscreen (Alt + Enter) and the game runs fine. If it doesn't work, the game might have started before you got to the desktop.
good luck, have fun
I also have this problem. The administrator solution doesn't work consistent;y. My guess is that it has something to do with widescreen monitors. Does everyone having this problem use widescreen monitors?? Is there a way to fix this other than playing in a window?

If Dosbox doesn't have a problem with displaying LotR1's output in windowed mode, then it might make the whole thing easier by not having Dosbox start in fullscreen. Let it start in windowed mode and then hit Alt+Enter for fullscreen.

Open ..\LotRealm_RE\Lords1\dosboxLords1.conf with Notepad:
"fullscreen=true" - set to false for starting in a window.

But, who knows, there might be merit in playing with "output=OpenGL" to fix the whole matter more properly. You can replace OpenGL by surface, overlay, openglnb and ddraw.
One of those may allow Dosbox to show the glory of conquest in fullscreen from the beginning.

I can't test this, as I don't have that problem (using a Dosbox installation under Linux). Good luck.

Addendum:
For aesthetic reasons you may also want to take a look further down in the file. The "aspect" option helps, if you don't want the game streched over your whole screen, and with the "scaler" option you can choose from a number of filters that smooth out the pixels if you want that.

I do have this occuring on a widescreen however I didn't say you'd have to keep playing in a window - just switch back to fullscreen and the graphics work as long as the game was launched in window mode. Also Ketzerfreund's suggestions seem quite convenient, would be worth trying out.
I believe I solved it. It does require editing the CONF file, however. You will have to change ASPECT to TRUE to insure that it recognizes your widescreen and starts the game in the right ratio. Try tinkering with the aspect and resolution in the CONF file and you should be able to get it working.
I had this problem as well, simple solution.

Switch the graphics option to Direct3D as opposed to OpenGL it defaults to. Not sure if any of the other options work too, but Direct3D worked great for me, Vista 64-bit.

Yep, in case anyone else has this problem this was by far the easiest solution for me (Win 7 64bit).
