Hey there, I used to play Loom when I was a teenager and I watched some Let's Plays on youtube but I am stucked on the island and cant get past the tornado. What am I missing?

On the island I have done everything and I am able to play the notes: c, d, e and f.
I got following words to cast:
ddcd
eced
cccc
defc
dedc

none of them work on the tornado, why?

Most of the drafts are randomized, but I assume one of those you listed is the "twisting" draft. (One of the possible sequences that may be assigned to "twisting" is "defc" that you listed.)

Which does the exact opposite of what you want to do.

So you want to cast it backwards, e.g. if "twisting" is "defc", try "cfed".

Hey, thanks. I realized it myself already.
But it's a really good hint you dont get right away in the game.
I've always thought it strange that there is not a single mention in the game nor in the manual, that backwards spells also work snd with the opposite effect. I also figured it out by myself, but as a game mechanic necessary to finish the game I would have expected to make it to the manual. I'll have to check the Book of Patterns, maybe there is a subtle hint hidden somewhere.

I think it's slightly better clued in the EGA version of the game. There, if you use the twisting draft on the waterspout, Bobbin will say, "It's twisting hard enough already! Must be SOME way to untwist it ..." In the VGA version, that line has been rewritten as "Well, that only twisted it tighter!"

It's a shame that GOG doesn't have the EGA version in addition to the VGA version. Particularly considering that's the version Brian Moriarty prefers, to the point where he referred to the VGA version as "an abomination" in a recent interview.
I'm also stuck on the island. My problem is I've done everything I'm supposed to do but Bobbin never get the F-note after he sais "Is it over?"... He just stands there like an idiot. I can still ride the treebranch to the tornado but I can't do anything without the F-note.

I even tried starting a new game but the problem remained.

Maybe I should try playing the advance-mode and see what happens.

If memory serves me, the F-note isn't triggered by any specific scene. Instead, you get it when you've used all the drafts that you've learned on the island (except for one that you can't use until later) at least once. That is, it isn't enough to just having learned them.

I could be wrong about that, though.
Have you spun the gold in the dark tent and dyed the wool green?

(also I definitively agree with the previous statements about the talkie VGA version being available, ironically it feels so quiet due to the lack of music outside of cutscenes)
