I just purchased the game. When I run the game, there are no courses. I click Install in the course dialog and nothing. I try Insert Other CD, but nothing. How/where are the courses installed?

There are four courses included With Links LS 98, they show up when you click Play Golf.

If you also get Links 386 Pro, you'll have access to way more

Interestingly, I tried installing Links LS on my Win XP machine and had this problem! I didn't have this issue in Win 10.

Nevertheless, this is easy to fix! Go into the Kapa_Bay, Latrobe_, Plantati, and Village_ folders, copy the CRX file from each and put in the root folder. Now those courses will appear when you hit Play Golf!

You'll notice there's a CRH folder with a bunch of other courses. These WON'T work if you just copy them. They can be imported if you have Links 386 Pro!

That's the problem, when I click "Play Golf", it says no courses installed.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing.

I figured it out. Somehow C:\Windows\System32 was not in my path. There is a regs.cmd file that is executed during install that configured the registry. It was erroring out during the install but since echo was off, I never knew that it failed. Uninstalled, made sure the path was correct and reinstalled. The courses now show up.

GOG needs to have a better error system in setup/batch files.

Waht "PATH" are you refferring to?
Hey guys, what a suprise to see this game! I used to play this on my Macintosh when I was a kid in about 1996.
What courses are included with Links 386? I remember there was Banff, Harbour Town in the base game then there were a heap of add-on courses.

I think they mean the system environment variables, which can be reached as shown in the attached image

The 386 version has all the available courses available at the time. It comes with 19 courses. It is pretty complete. I ignore if other fan courses are available for download. If there were any ever; official ones aside.

The Challenge of Golf comes with nine.
And the LS 98 version comes with four without any addon. But there is a button to import the 386 ones at ease.

How can they be made to work in game without Links 386 Pro? If they can't why not?

You need Links 386 to use those courses. Reason they don't work without 386, you don't own those courses.

I own the courses because they are in the game folders in the right format for Links 98 - I don't want to play them in Links 386! So your answer is illogical.

I read it as you saying you don't own Links 386.
Just open Links LS 98 and go to options. You will see there you can convert 386 courses. Browse to the directory you have 386 courses installed.

I'm talking about playing the courses in the links ls 98 folder in crx format that came with links ls98 - these have nothing to do with links 386!
