Does anyone know how to enable this? I tried messing around with the scummvm, ini file but can't seem to get it to work.

I am able to get it to work fine under DosBOX games like the Space Quest series, but I am having difficulty getting it to work with scummvm games. Thanks!
You'll need to "cough" find yourself certain MT32 rom and controller files for the scummVM roland emulation to work...

Same goes if you decide to use dosbox and MUNT (mind that these games work a bit better in dosbox than in scummvm).

Also without the rom and controller files, I think dosbox just reverts to using your General Midi, which is not the same thing.

If you're talking about a real Roland MT-32 (old, new, MT-100 or any of the CM lines), then the answer is very simple. You have no choice but to use DoSBOX. You will have to launch DoSBOX, make a directory for your Leisure Suit Larry games, and install each one to the directories and select MT32 with CSM. Once you've done that, you will have to edit the dosbox conf file and make sure the MT32 is enabled. That should do it. Bit of a pain in the butt, but thats your only option. For some reason, GoG decided to only let the LL games work with a crippled version of SCUMMVM that does not allow MT32 support (real or emulated). You also cant play use the full version of SCUMMVM to play the GoG versions of LL games.

On a side note, the LL games do play better with DoSBOX than with SCUMMVM. SCUMMVM seems to have a wee bit of mouse and keyboard lag for some reason. So you will be better off with DoSBOX anyway.

2 questions, good sir:

1. Are you guys talking about the better soundtrack for the games and if so...

2. Can I get a set-up walkthrough so I can get them running for myself?

Please and thank you!

Or if you are really in to your old games like me and could not afford one back in the day the real hardware can be purchased second hand for about £50 on ebay and then I added a cheap USB midi adapter for about £5 again off ebay.

I use my Mt-32 both with DOSBOX and SCUMMVM and it still sounds better than the emulators and for me was money well spent, as even today I still like the distinctive sound the Roland MT-32 makes.

In SCUMMVM you want to do the following if you are using a real Roland MT-32.
1. select Options and go to the Audio tab.
2. Under Preferred Device select your hardware midi adapter (something along the lines of USB MIDI [Windows MIDI])
3. select the MIDI tab and again select you midi adapter under GM Device and enable "Mixed AdLib/MIDI Mode" so you also get Adlib sound effects when supported.
4. Finally select the MT-32 tab and again select you midi adapter and then click on the "True ROland Mt-32 (disable GM emulation) option and click OK.

Now you should be ready to go.
I've had trouble with using MUNT with Leisure Suit Larry 1.

I get the following message in a separate ScummVM window.

"WARNING: The MT-32 emulator requires one of the two following file sets (not bundled with ScummVM):
Either 'MT32_CONTROL.ROM' and 'MT32_PCM.ROM' or 'CM32L_CONTROL.ROM' and 'CM32L_PCM.ROM'!"

I'm quite sure that I selected the MT-32 emulator in all of the audio and music-related settings in ScummVM. I even placed the rom files in the games directory as well as where the ScummVM executable is. No dice.

Update: I tried selecting MT-32 Synth Emulator instead. Now, the only thing I can hear is drums. The message that I get now is:

"The automatic mapping for General MIDI hasn't been worked on for SCI1 games. Music might sound wrong or broken. Please choose another music driver for this game (e.g. AdLib or MT-32) if you are experiencing issues with music!"

Update 2: I eventually decided to not use ScummVM afterall. Instead, it's DOSBOX Game Launcher for me.
