I seem to recall that someone once did a remake of Leisure-Suit Larry 2 into a point-and-click interface without upgrading the graphics. Does anyone know if this still exists and where it might be found?

Okay. I finally went out to search for it myself and found it easily.

Just so everyone here knows you can download this:

Thank you! was looking for exactly this!
Sorry to necro this thread, but unfortunately I have to own up:

Although I was aware of this point and click version (it may be too much to use the word "remake"), I had not actually tried downloading it until just now. This version is from 2004 and has not been updated in a very long time. As far as I know, it is unable to run on modern graphics systems. Also, reading through the manual made it clear that this version is nowhere as impressive as the EGA remake of King's Quest 4 that was released a few years ago on AGS by Dr. Slash and was very recently updated.

While I would be interested in seeing an improved version of LSL2, I don't feel I can recommend the AGS version provided in the link I previously posted. If anyone is able to get it to run on modern systems, I would be interested in knowing.
The closest thing to a remake of Larry 2 is actually the new Wet Dreams Dry Twice.

I'd say it's as close to a Larry 2 & 3 remake as it gets. At least, I expect the next holder of the Larry IP either to remake Larry 6 and Larry 7, or make a new game, similar to those two, instead of Larry 2, which is the biggest oddball in the original series. I did enjoy playing it, but it's just not very Larry-like. Here's a list of some of the references I can think of off the top of my head.

Continue reading only if you don't mind minor spoilers:

It's basically a homage to Larry 2 & 3, infused with a lot of Monkey Island. Just like in Larry 2, you play "secret agent Larry" without knowing, chased by an agent from an evil organisation.

You arrive on a tropical island called Kalau'a (Kalalau is Larry's ex-wife from Larry 2 & 3) after being shipwrecked, same as in Larry 2. This island is basically the same as Nontoonyte, there's even the same hotel with a fountain in front of it, and toilet booths behind it.

One of the areas in the game, the Observation Deck, is a carbon copy of the first screen in Larry 3, down to the same rectangular patch of grass and a telescope on the left side.

You get to visit a secret KGB base inside a volcano, and there's an evil genius No No, who suffers from extreme pianophobia. This is Nonookee, whom you defeated in Larry 2.

There is a duplicated bellhop, similar to the doorman who appears in multiple places. There's an area with female cannibals, just like in Larry 3 at the end. You also get to meet Passionate Patti again, in a way.

It has a minigame where you avoid obstacles, which vaguely resembles the log ride. You encounter a jungle maze, although this time Larry just comments on it, but gets through on his own. Even the dreaded Magic Marker makes a comeback!

Thanks for the info. I had wondered about Wet Dreams... but hadn't played it. What I tried to link to was not actually a remake but a crude attempt to make Larry 2 point and click. When I actually looked at the interface, I discovered it wasn't even really Sierra's icon bar, just a few text commands in place of the icons. The main remake I've found of an SCI EGA game that retains the EGA graphics is DrSlash's King's Quest IV Retold, also using AGS: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/play/game/2533/

Really, as far as I'm concerned, we should see Larry 2 as mainly a parody of James Bond.

I see. I tried to play Larry 2 using mouse at first, but even if you ignore the fact you would constantly jump between mouse and keyboard, the movement itself is incredibly bad when using mouse. Having a real point and click version would be nice, too bad that's not it.

I think the entry barrier (mainly regarding the controls) is set so high the number of new players who will experience Larry 2 will be close to zero. Which is a shame, because it's a funny game. I actually enjoyed Larry 2 a lot, but yes, exactly as you say, it's mainly a parody of James Bond. I guess Al Lowe was compelled (or forced) by his environment to make Larry 2 a game with "more value" than "just" a dating comedy game with sexual themes?

Have you played the Gobliiins series? Larry 2 reminded me of those a lot. Now that I mention it, I really need to play those too. I played them as a kid, and I remember them fondly. They also have this formula where you die, but learn something you can apply once you reload your saved game, and hilarious deaths which never make you feel bad for losing. At least, until you hit some roadblock and keep dying the same "funny" death for the 20th time... If you like Larry 2, maybe give Gobliiins a try.

I'll check the KQ IV Retold you linked, thanks.

Actually, I think (from what I've heard) that Al actually wanted to do something different with Larry 2, but it was that approach that proved dissatisfying to Larry fans, so he was compelled to return to the original formula in Larry 3. (While I am calling it a "formula," I still think these games are high quality adventure games...and are certainly good for edgy humor.)

Yes, I've played Gobliiins (the first game) and plan to play the other two. In fact, I'm on a multiyear project to play my way through Sierra's entire catalog, even the games I missed the first time.

Incidentally, while I'm 51 and played Sierra games in high school and college, I've met a few 30-year olds who say they enjoy certain early Sierra games and are clearly even willing to put up with the typing parser. There are probably not going to be a lot of new players who love that era but there are some.
