Again, like most of these Sierra graphic adventure games, the voice acting is pretty awful and distracts from the game.

Is there a way to disable it and go text only? Or do we have another King's Quest V on our hands and the versions uploaded are voice on only?!

Noooooo!

Actually in this case the Cd-rom is superior to the floppy version as far as it is the version that comes with hi-res version of the game.

Also most of the actors in LSL6 are actually professional actors unlike KQ5 (after KQ6 Sierra hired mainly professional actors to star in the cd-rom games). Still that doesn't mean you will have to necessarily like the actors they picked or hired!

Also IIRC, this one is pretty easier to get rid of voices. Voices are all in the 'aud' directory in a file called 'resource.aud'. You may find the file in the main LSL6 directory as well. If you delete the "resource.aud" (aud for 'audio') file or change the name of it, then the game won't access the voices.

Yeah it's not AS bad as KQ5, but still sours the experience, IMO.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out!
Not really answering your question but I actually liked the voice acting quite a bit. Especially the narrator making fun of Larry. :)
I can't imagine hating the voices. Neil Ross is the narrator and Jab Rabson Larry have such a great back and forth chemistry. One of the few games the narrator and main character talk to eachother and it really adds to the humor if you ask me. I am the exact opposite, I can NOT play this game, without the voices.
You can also disable the voice acting in the VGA (DOS) Version. I know that version isn't high-res like the other (Windows) version, but I recommend playing the VGA one anyway. It's the original release, and it's not as buggy. The high-res version has some odd bugs like getting stuck in hallways and the game not progressing sometimes.

To disable sound in the VGA version: (can use mouse or arrow keys)
-start game
-begin or load a save
-press Escape to open in-game menu
-go to the 'Game' menu
-select "Text On/Off"
-Done!

Actually, Voice VGA version is "NOT" the original release. In fact, Larry CD-ROM came with "BOTH" the VGA and the Hires version at the same time. They actually share some of the same resources even as well. Including the same "Resource.Aud" file.

Both of these versions are not the same version as the Floppy version which has some interface differences.

Also your 'fix' will not disable voice acting in either the VGA or the SVGA versions of CD-Rom version. Infact all the text on-off option does in both versions is just disable or enable the 'subtitles', but voices continue.

The location of the 'subtitles' differs in both versions (either showing text boxes in the play field, or at the bottom of the screen in a box)

The only proper way to get rid of voices is remove/rename the Resource.aud' file.
