Hallo everyone,

I know, I know, game has been out for a while and it's not the busiest forum, but since I got it via GOG it's the only venue that I can think of.

Recently, I decided I'd boot up the game again after a long while - tried to, anyway. What happens is that the launcher with the various language and resolution options pops up, I click launch and then nothing. Not even an error-window and the launcher's process terminates itself in task manager after some time without anything happening.

I've looked around and it apparently is not an entirely unique problem. The system specs I got haven't changed since I last ran the game and are as follows

Quad Intel I5-4670k 3.4GHZ
16GB RAM
Radeon R9 290
Windows 7

Troubleshooting suggestions I've tried short of reformating Windows 7, something I am loath to do are restart, reinstall, trying different options in the launcher, deleting the options_game.ini-file, rolling back game-version to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried running the game exe outside of Galaxy?

Via Eisenwald.exe you mean? All that does is open the launcher to the same effect.

Sometimes launching the game without Galaxy picking it up works, guess it doesn't with LoE (I'm sorry I couldn't check as I don't have Galaxy installed).

Another thing I can suggest is have you tried adding the game to your anti-virus ignore list and then seeing if the game will run after the launcher?

Also, have you got the game installed in C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files? If so, reinstall the game somewhere else, for example C:\GOG Games as there can be problems when games are installed in Program Files.

One thing I do remember from ages ago is that I actually had a problem with the game immediately crashing after trying to start it and what I did to fix it was rename the Galaxy.dll file found in the LoE folder (to Galaxy.unused) and the game started up and ran perfectly. Might be worth a go as a last resort.

Hope something here helps.
Only got MS Essentials for Anti-Virus, to be had, which isn't that invasive and doesn't have an option to white-list specific files besides. I also actually tried moving the two Galaxy .dll out of folder, but no luck there either. Install-folder also is outside of the default Program Files-/Program Files (x86).

Not sure what else to suggest except that I use MS Essentials (for Win 7) and have a few programs in my white-list (it can be found under Settings/Excluded files and locations) - it actually is useful as I've a couple of games that would not run without being white-listed. Maybe give it ago and see what happens as you can always delete the entry if it doesn't work. Good luck.
Been a while since I used that section, true. Yet, even with the install-folder plus .exe files added to exceptions, no dice. I did notice a mismatch of settings while looking into the two Options_game.ini in the install-folder and AppData/Local/Eisenwald. I am thinking something's getting borked as the launcher tries to apply the settings within the .ini...removing them results in an "outside range" error of the launcher, which is some progress at least. Trying another reinstall to see if I can get them back.

Good luck, I hope the reinstall works, let us know how it goes.

Well, ran the various troubleshooting suggestions again after a fresh install plus placing the AppData/Local/Eisenwald .ini in the main folder to overwrite, since adjustments in the launcher appear to be saved there rather than in the main folder, but to no avail. Only other observation I can make is that a dll.host - COM surrogate-process pops up in task manager after starting the game via launcher, which fizzles out before the launcher itself does. Since that type of process appears to be rather non-specific, trying to DIY this appears to be more trouble than it's worth.

Shame really. Last time I started the game couple years back, I didn't have these types of issues at all and enjoyed its throwback to the likes of Disciples II quite a bit.

I've tried running task manager but am unsure as to what you've got popping up briefly, the launcher shows up fine but I didn't see any ' dll.host - COM surrogate-process' show up.

One last idea - what settings have you got set in the launcher? Maybe it's something there? I've attached a screenshot of my settings which does launch the game fine. (I've not installed Road to Iron Forest as I wanted to try the game without any DLC to see if the problem would arise)

If no luck, before giving up I'd get in touch with support as they may come up with some other ideas. Good luck.

Bit of a late responder here, but if you are still trying to get the game to work, try disabling the sound (by selecting the "Disable Loading Sounds" in the launcher options). If that then works (the game would then run silent) then you may be able to get it running with sound again by reducing hardware sound acceleration.

I found (running Windows XP) that the game would crash when loading a saved game at any point after the first tutorial map, unless I reduced sound acceleration to "basic".
So, uhhh.... did anyone ever figure this out? Just wanted to try out the game but the launcher refuses to start the game. The "Game start" button is greyed out and can't be pressed no matter what I do. See screenshot.

EDIT:
Never mind. The game actually requires a restart. Haven't stumbled upon one of those in a while...
