[Legend of Grimrock 2]

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone else experienced this issue. It would seem my game crashes whenever I try saving and I have also observed that I can not change any settings in options.

Kind of suspecting there's a file permission issue here somewhere but I dunno. I do not have mods installed.

I too am experiencing the frustration of the game crashing to desktop when I save. I played this about 2.5 years ago, and it saved fine; in fact, I can load a game from Dec 2019, but I can't save now as a overwrite or a new save file.
I can change options from the main menu. I can create a new party. But Save = Crash.
I am also playing on the most updated downloadable version: 2.2.4. No mods.

Edit: I believe I figured it out! I needed to allow the action, as it was being blocked: "protected folder access blocked"

I went into Virus and threat protection settings, then Ransomware protection to select "Manage ransomware protection," and then selected "Block history" under Controlled folder access. [Note: You can just search "Controlled folder access" from the Windows start menu search bar to go directly.]

I clicked on the "Protected folder access blocked" from the time I was trying to save, and it expands as a mini-window with a little info on the protected folder. Mine said:
App or process blocked: grimrock2.exe
Protected folder: "%userprofile%\Documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock 2\"
Blocked by: Controlled folder access

In the bottom right corner of this mini-window, I clicked on Actions and selected "Allow on device." I relaunched the game and all save options are working again! One more note: opening the protected folder access and hitting the allow on device might prompt Windows Security to ask you if you want to allow changes, so you probably have to hit yes to those to get through all of this.

Hope this helps you and anyone else with such frustrating settings!
