In short: Xinput wrapper aren't the same as native Xinput game. There is same old limitations (no hot plug during gameplay and many else, especially hot plug from wireless to wired mode, for Dinput it was two separate device's and was not mandatory to support such features - which in result indeed was based on games)
Assuming WHAT did you mean by plug n play: there is never ever such feature. the only plug n play - what now mean by standard since 2005 - is Xinput native games and native or 100% fully compatible(clone) Xbox gamepad. They even has what last can be treated as plug and play - default bind schema. Never it was meant by PnP before.
All LOK games was perfectly play for me - even from controller. general noname dual shock 1-2 clone and move controller. For clone i must disable Analog mode BEFORE game start for most of titles of LOK series. Looks like Analog sticks on my move pads are just D-pads analogous. I did switc to general Dinput in app and move-controller pads work perfectly even in SR - without Raziel goes in circles.
But i doubt Xbox will work without tweaks and 3rd party wrappers. There is such wrapper build in for BO1 and Defiance, also was included in SR1 but update was rollbacked. You need find that build on <...>. See near thread for search reference. That one build no more available on GOG/GOG-Galaxy has circles Raz8el solved for every pads.
LOK are games initially has additional improvement gamepads support, as part of PC porting. At least BO1 perfectly Full gamepad support - no need for KB+mouse. SR1 and later require mouse at least for launchers for sure (i dont remember how it was work in menus).
In time before around 2006 Plug n Play and General PnP Dinput pad - plug n play was meant basic pre set up - manual binding. This is all that you must do for BO1/SR1/Defiance for your Xbox pad, Xbox will be recognized. Most likely BO2 and SR2 wont recognize Xbox, since all of them are legacy DirectX 9(and older) Dinput games. Ideal pad is pad have hard switcher or App switcher between DirectX #-input's. Or at least two separate pads, one is Xbox and one are Dinput general pnp gamepad (Sony and Nintendo are Xinput but not 100% clone/compatible).
It is not what depend on games, but on what you have. Most things not depend on games and never supposed to be based on games.
Look to PCGW games, xinput, dinput and gamepad articles for link to download workarounds for games bot support Xbox.
Steam have GOG builds with some some GOG's related files as leftovers. Steam haven't more recent updates and releases: Defiance, Soul Reaver 1 and Blood Omen 1 with GOG DX Wrapper and gamepad support. cant say which version to chose.
