I've had no response from tech support on this, so I'll throw it open to the forums.

The 3-armed thing (Bara-something?) in the cantina in the huline village talks to Luther when he first enters. The speech is along the lines of "my reputation is so fearful that you've come to surrender to me?" At this point, and it sounds as though 3-arms has finished his speech, the game crashes to desktop with no error messages.

Has anyone else experiencd this or similar? Any ideas what might be causing it?

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same exact problem. I tried changing every setting in the dosbox and lol options files with no luck.
I crashed once at that part but when I did it again it worked fine. No idea if this is going to work but try maybe skipping through the dialogue really quick. I forgot what the default button for skip dialogue is. You'll see it in the keyboard options.
Check http://www.gog.com/en/forum/lands_of_lore_series/memory_allocation_of_1309694_bytes_failed - this about the same problem ;)
Thanks. I don't really want to use someone else's saved game as I was really thorough up to this point and don't want to lose any items or sub-quests. I do have the original disks however, so I'll try playing past the crash using another install then switch back to the GoG version. I do remember that the original was virtually unplayable on a modern OS, because of codec problems I think.

I'm currently immersed in Anachronox though, so it'll have to wait for a while.

Could do that for you if you want. Installing the win95 edition from CD took a bit of effort.

Thanks for the kind offer, but I think I'll be leaving LoL alone now. I already played through the game twice in the past, using the original disks. It's a good game, but it seems that I only wanted to take another look for nostalgia :)

One solution I've had when the support reboot failed was just to come out swinging. Save the game just before you go in the cantina, power up on heal or have healing scrolls handy, and attack Baccata at once before he speaks. He'll put up quite a fight, then vanish, you can go on wtih the quest. When you're done in the Hive Jungle, make sure you've gotten Kityara's blade for Daniel. Since Baccata won't escort you to the bridge, go past his sleeping form (unless you want another fight), kill the guards at the gateway to the Savage Jungle and the "spider" video plays, after which the barrier is down and you can go on. Be prepared to fight Baccata again at the end, but your power is pretty intense by then.

I am having the exact same problem and am upset by it. Right after him reputation line it crashes to desktop. Any luck from gog.com? This is terrible. The game ends here.
Same issue, no visible possible solution, will try start a new game and see if it solves it, but i highly doubt it.
But who knows...

Wasn't this the solution? It's copied from a post in the link upthread:

This problem still persists, but I've found a workaround: You need to start the game with the parameter -LOWMEM, which will make it run in some kind of safe mode and prevent the crash. It did for me, at least.

To do this, edit the dosboxLOL2.conf (or dosboxLOL2_single.conf) file in the game's main directory. At the end of the file, under the section [autoexec], you need to change this line

lolg.exe -CD .

to this

lolg.exe -CD . -LOWMEM
(May look different in your configuration, but you really just need to add the parameter to this line.)

Once that's done start the game, load your savegame and do the part in the tavern. You can then save your game, remove the -LOWMEM parameter and continue playing normally. Note that the parameter also causes the game to set the graphical settings to the lowest possible, so you will need to reconfigure those afterwards.

Confirmed, this works exactly as explained here.
This solution doesn't work for me. After adding the LOWMEM parameter, the software no longer boots at all.
I managed to find the answer in another thread. What you actually need to replace the line with is:

lolg.exe -CD .. -LOWMEM

For some reason almost everyone gives a variant of this line with one period instead of two, which, as I and others have noted, prevents the game from booting.

Thanks for this hint, it worked in my case too :-)
