Lands of Lore 1 The Throne of Chaos

Unfortunately, I did not find out about this until it happened so here's your warning!

You need 4 objects in total at Castle Cimmeria which is pretty much the end of the game. The unicorn being one of those.

Well, the unicorn is hidden in a room with a ornate lock that opens the door to the room.

This lock is supposed to be able to be picked with the lockpicks, however my lockpicks do not open the door!

There were two keys in the level that I had used on other ornate locks which opened those doors but there appear to be no more and so I can't say if they would actually work - yet its too late for that anyway!

If you have a high rogue skill, lock picking will work. 2 is my highest and its not good enough. However, I just managed to switch the 'jade necklace' and 'great axe "master"' to a character than has 2 rogue to up him to 4 rogue and the lockpicks now work!

One other thing that can be done is to equip with a weapon that increases the rogue skill such as the crossbow. If you find yourself stuck here with no alternatives then go after the respawned enemies with that weapon (if that's all the enemies that are left) and increase rogue with one character to level 4. It might be a boring few hours but you'll beat the game.

So in the end, either make sure you have one character rogue up to 4 before getting too far into Castle Cimmeria if you don't want to waste time, or at least to level 2 and then give them the 'jade necklace' and/or 'great axe "master"' if you have them - or you may never finish the game! (there might be other items that improve rogue as well?).

Don't believe me?

If you have to grind for rogue skill, give Valkirje (if you still have it) to Baccata. It raises quite fast and you don't lose a physical attack (thanks to the dual hand) - I usually had Baccata at 7 or 8 of rogue before entering the castle (mainly thanks to valkirje on wasps).

You should always be able to finish the game, even if you never level up your rogue skill, if you find the Jade Necklace and the Great Axe Master. Both give you a rogue level and Paulson starts with a level 2 rogue skill, which adds up to 4.
