Anyone know if it's possible to play the game in a window, rather than full-screen?

Yes, there is. The game supports the following command line options to be passed to the labw.exe executable:
-win
Starts the game in windowed mode
-full
Starts the game full-screen. Which is somewhat redundant since it does this by default anyway
-config
Shows a configuration dialog that lets you select both windowed/full mode as well as volume.

You can also simply hit F1 at any time to toggle between them.
