JMayer70: Listen to IWubCheeze folks.

His words regards KKND2 are true.

PS/ That complaint worked, I got a refund. The only other thing I would like to see is GOG.com admitting the game is not of sellable quality and either make it one of the totally free games, get it fixed if they can (which is very unlikely as they'd need to track the original developers or get the source code), or just remove it from the site altogether!

mat_swat: Maybe game has a problem because GOG mess something? Maybe CD version does not have such problems? Can anyone verify this?
The word going round is that it is only modern PCs having this trouble. On an old single core 1Gz system running W98 - ie a typical system you probably had back in the 1998 - 2004 era - the game offers no problems, or so some people say. I cannot verify this with not having a 10 to 16 year old PC to test it on.

My PC is now five years old - no spring chicken in PC terms - and it suffers the full force of these bugs! No holds barred! The game was simply unplayable!

It isn't actually something GOG have messed with themselves (that we know of)..... but it IS a problem GOG damn well know about, and damn well cannot fix it! Or maybe they just simply cannot be arsed to even try!!!!! They also won't remove it from sale even though they know it is a total duffer. But they might refund you if you've bought it already - find you also can't play it - and complain within 30 days of buying.

As for the CD version - again AFAIK - on modern PC systems, the bug does indeed still happen.

The "Mission Failed" bug is annoying as hell, as I can't finish certain missions, specifically on the Series 9's side.

As far as the "Unable to build unit"/unit bug goes, it is gone after I swapped into using Windows 98 compatability mode.

But this "Mission Failed" bug is severely annoying.

I love this game, but this bug is annoying as fuck.

Just putting in my 2 cents as another victim of the Mission Failed bug, I didn't come up against this until the last mission of the survivor campaign against the evolved, Death to the Freaks. For me, like for many people it doesn't occur until an hour or more of gameplay time has elapsed. I will try the various strategies for getting around it and report if anything works. I had a great time playing this game back in the day on the PlayStation...and am very disappointed that the pc version is so buggy. I hope this gets figured out soon.

EDIT: The save and reload then save again in a different slot and reload from the second slot solution worked for me.

Just started playing KKND krossfire again bought it ages ago when it came out and again on GoG. Never had any issues with the old CD copy I have but GOG version seems to always give me random mission failures with black screens as soon as I start a mission, I resolved that by running in admin n win 98 compatibility. but then i started getting mission failures after different durations of time and the original never used to have those issues i could turtle and go at my own pace now it seems to have some sort of timer
Write me up too!

got this game yesterday, was looking forward to a lenghty campain and good times! :)
hit about halfway in the survivors campain and BAM Mission failed?!?
i had already read that this was a bug, so i sent a refund request straight away.

when i played this game back in the day on my old XP laptop i did not have issues like this.

wish there was a fix, cause this was really dissapointing, as this game stands as the first game that got me into RTS

The original cd version works without problem or errors. I recently begun to use in on my old Win98 PC.
GOG version can't be used on Win98 PC.
Lately I've begun playing this game again, but using the KWIP high-resolution mod. FWIW I have never encountered any bugs so far, unlike two years ago where it was very common.

So try out the KWIP mod; playing on high resolution is also a plus.

s23021536: Do some of the missions have timers? On two occasions, while things were going well
for me, I got "mission failed" for no apparent reason. The first time was on 'River Suicide something' (the old demo stage), and the second time on the 'Death from above' survivor mission. Did I miss something in the briefing or has
this also happened to somebody else?
Problem is not with original game, only with version from gog. Do not buy guys this version. I have my own old original and I use patch (for usa version). everything is working fine. But if u have gog best what can u do is download or use original. Use patch (kknd 2 usa) on gog version and put inside or mount original cd. Click on new kknd2.exe (not shortcuts from gog) and enjoy. No more problems :)

Hi,

The game is playable. Do not lose hope. Here is the list of common errors and their solutions.

It can be annoying sometimes, BUT I have passed the entire game, all three campaigns, despite errors.

Here it goes.

1. Mission Failed

This error happens later in the game. It may have something to do with a lot of activity going on in the map/a lot of units being in the game - this happens when the game draws for a long time and you have large armies over the map.

Solutions:
a) Attempt to complete the campaigns faster! Do not turtle in your base with turrets for hours and play the attrition game. Play a faster game (which will be more enjoyable as well) - kill your opponents sooner and the game will be even more enjoyable. You will also avoid this error.

b) Save very often in different slots. Mission Failed bug PERSISTS even if you save before the crash (you will load the game and the Mission Failed bug will happen again). But if you save many different versions, then you will be able to load one that avoids the Mission Failed bug and continue the mission. Usually you can go back 2-5 minutes in the past, and it will be enough to avoid it.

2. Cannot build unit/Cannot build building

This error may be related to pathfinding.

Solutions:
a) Save the game and exit. Then run KKND2 again. The saved game will not be affected by this bug. This bug is fixed by exitting the game.

b) Fix possible pathfinding issues. After you load the game again, cancel your units on the building queue. Make space for units leaving buildings.

3. Crash (not responding - force close)

This error is a bit unpredictable but tends to happen either a) later in the game, or b) immediately when loading a mission.

Solutions:

a) Save often. If the game crashes you will have to start it again.

b) If the game crashes upon loading a mission, just load your campaign file by clicking "Single Player Game"... The campaign map does not have a save button, but this is because it is automatically saved every time you complete a mission.

4. Harvester Error

This error sometimes occurs after battles. Your harvesters will remain immobilized. You order them to get oil, but nothing happens. You order them to your refinery but the harvester does nothing.

Solutions:

a) Save the game and quit KKND2. Then start it again. Just like the Cannot Build Unit error, this error is fixed by restarting the game.

SUMMARY:

These errors are annoying, but you can complete the campaign by saving often, quitting the game when necessary, and completing the missions in a timely fashion and not letting the map get out of hand.

I have completed all 3 campaigns. Originally I had been disappointed after getting frequent Mission Failed errors every couple of minutes, or even within one minute. But then I realized I just had to complete the missions faster.

Does the game have bugs? Sure. But would I rather it not be available at all online? Absolutely not. I would very much prefer this to not being able to play this game at all. Finding it elsewhere online will be rather difficult.

Of course GOG has not mentioned the bugs when selling this game (maybe there should be a note on this so people don't feel scammed or something) - but if a proper note is added, then GOG has done a marvelous job on bringing a lot of these old games back.

Regards,
Ken
Just bought the game and I'm being plagued by this Mission Failed bug, right at mission one of the Evolved.

I don't have masses of troops on the map, last time i was still in the early phases of building a base.
Two mission fails in a row now, I can't even get past lvl 1 :(

I think I'll be going for that refund.

I encountered the problem on one/two levels of the survivor campaign, and always at the exact same moment. What you can try is to save frequently and identify the exact moment when you get the mission failure. Make a save just before it happens, quit the game, restart the game and load that save. If it happens again try to make another save closer to the point of mission failure and repeat the process.

It's a pain in the ass for sure, but at least it could be like in my case where I only had to deal with the problem on one or two levels. For some reason I didn't run into the problem on any of the other levels.

I cannot stress this patch. This pretty much solved the bugs for me as well as enabling 1080P resolution.
I also encountered the random "mission failed" error message, in my case during the final survivor mission v series 9. I managed to get the game to respond by pressing F1 and bringing up the in-game help menu. After closing the menu the game became responsive again however a few minutes later the whole level restarted. Not a fix, but progress perhaps. Will have a poke around and see if I can get past this but interested to see if it helps anyone else.
It might be worth giving dgvoodoo a try if you're experiencing video-related issues. It also works in conjunction with the widescreen patch, from my testing.

As for the mission failed bug, I tried loading up several old saves with the above configured and I haven't seen it crop up again. YMMV, of course.
