Hi Guys,

i have the original BaK from Diskettes (15mb) and the Gog-Version (150mb).
I havent played any of them.
Which version is the better one?
And why is the gog-version ten times larger?

Greetings Sweem

As I recall, the floppy disk version is 1.01, whereas the GOG version is version 1.02. There is/was a patch to bring the floppy version to 1.02, though I am not sure where you might find it these days.

The GOG version includes the CD-audio tracks (though compressed to Ogg/Vorbis).
As fe79 says, just patch your version to 1.02. Here you have one posible source for it: https://patches-scrolls.de/patch/564/7/

Make sure to check out the sticky post in this forum to get the best music and sound possible after you apply the patch. You don't need the CD music (which is crappy to begin with)

Respectfully disagree. Cd Music is the only way to go.

Right back at'ya.

Subjectively speaking for me the CD music is horrendous (and note that I'm not being hyperbolic) when compared to GenMIDI with a good soundfont.

And objectively, the technical issues present with the CD music, well noted in the pinned topic, makes it a very inferior choice:

(...) there are several problems with the redbook audio.

- The tracks are very short and do not loop, so longer combat sequences end up being completely silent
- The tracks do not fade out, making scene transitions jarring

Let me just say , I am testing out the Gen Midi and must admit I do see an improvement. Thanks for steering me in the right direction!

Glad to read that you are liking it. One piece of advise if you try MIDI out for other games: don't try to rely on a single soundfont for all of them. It's a pain at first, but once you get to know each soundfont, you will find yourself choosing instinctively the right one for each kind of soundtrack.
