Hi all,

It's been awhile. I was itching to play this again, so I re-installed and fired it up a couple of weeks ago.
It was working fine as usual, but just last week when I tried to start up the program again it just hangs in the introduction screen.
I can hear the beginning tone of the SIERRA logo, but the screen stays black and the intro tone keeps skipping and repeating.

The program then proceeds to just hang like this and I have to force shut down.

Does anyone else have this problem? I tried running in different compatibility modes but no dice.

Thank you!

Sounds like it's freezing in a different spot, but did you try the fixes in this thread yet?

Basically:
Set Betrayal in Antara to run in XP (Sp2) compatibility mode (The patch that GOG included was designed for XP\Vista)
Then Edit these values in the game's RESOURCE.WIN to the following:

cacheSize1=600
resCDisc=%INSTALLDIR%
useDirectSound=FALSE
cacheSize3=100
Could also try reinstalling on the off chance a file got corrupted

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the game several times and used compatibility modes. No dice.
So I just uninstalled the game and left it.

Just reinstalled again a week later and it works fine again. Weird.
Maybe I will try editing the RESOURCE.WIN file later if it hangs again.
Might have had something to do with the last OS update. Or the file cache size.
