IT would seem that no one has found a solution to the issue of Antrara crashing after the intro prologue. I think back to when I installed from CD, and there was some issue with sound cards causing the hang, then there was the video card excelleration. The game is replete with glitches, and GOG, bless their heart. just does not have anyone that can/will find and post the FIX. It has to do with acceleration of audio/sound and any cpu past single core Intel. It did work, under W-98 and 3.1, as I finished the game on those two OS. I do not recal how I fixed it. Good game, wasted over thirty hours trying to get the GOG version to run past Prologue.
At last. got thru first chapter, with MANY crashes when I saved. And the INTRO to Cpt TWO crashes before it is done. There appears to be some relationship between the crashes and the movie/into segment. About every other save it crashes. Took eight hours to be to chp two. Repeating combats many times. FYI> I set the folder and files to be compatable with W-7 and RUN as Admin. Seemed to help. GOG has not answered my email Re: this issue.Nor the crashes on intro ONE. Se la Quere. What sy Ye?

Got thru Chp one, and after 20 attempts, got thru the dialogue to start Cht 2. Then it went to hell. The saved game is gone, and I have sold stuff to the same vendors 30-40 times. Tried BOOKMARK, and it says it saved, BUT on re-start, it gives err msg, SORRY< This game saved under OLDER edition, or something such. but NEVER loads. After twenty attempts, the Chp Two save went aswy. NO CLUE why. guessing they got tired of reloading same-o-shit. ruind/wasted a perf good week end trying to get this GOG to run. I forgot Poland/Cyprus shuts down on week ends. So we have to wait untill monday. You would think, an international organization would have staff on duty 24/7 for OUT OF TIME ZONE users. Sure, the games are cheap, but dows NO GOOD if you can NOT play them. And I am so PISSED I could chew steel and spit nails. Providing I have some teeth. It boggles my mind that this game, which I had on CD, and ran OK under W-3.1, 95 , and XP, can not run on my rig w/W-7 Pro, which is RETRO compliant w/ XP.
Little posting necromancy... however, I encountered similar problem and lets face it... this can still help to someone. BaK is rather timeless classic.

OK, few things... BaK rather aggresively switches between "VGA" (640x480x16) and "MCGA" (320x200x256) modes and it looks to me, that Dosbox does not like it, as it tends to hang from time to time when this happens.

In my case (I am using AMD Radeon R7 IGP currently, Windows 10 and AMD A12 APU) switching between full screen and windowed mode seem to do the trick (I tried to meddle with Dosbox setting, but I got no conclusive results).
And yes, disabling CD music seems to work (at the expense of sound quality, of course).

Regarding saving not working - well, since Dosbox maps existing directories and writes to them using OS services - the fault most likely lies with the OS itself and/or disc storage subsystem and there is possible that some hardware failure has caused this.
