1) According to the manual you can adjust resolution up to 1280*1024 but only 800*600 and 1024*756 are possible in the game option.
Is this ok, or am I missing something?
2) You can not demolish roads and fields (however you can build on road but not fields). Or?
3) Ii it possible to control (like withdraw) units from battle? I was not able to do so until all enemy's or my units were dead.
4) You can not dismiss any unit so be careful not to hire too many laborers (or any other units) as even unemployed units eat.
5) You can not control construction priority (too bad).
6) Recruits in Barracks do not eat (at least I have not noticed it) so don't make them soldiers before you need to.
I will try the unofficical patch to find out any improvements.

1) if you are playing on laptop and have 1280x800 desktop resolution it is possible that you cant switch to 1280x1024 bedause of that
2) Is that a question? You cant demolish roads and fields. How do you see destroying field? Or stone road? In 1000 a.d?
3) No, its not.
4) You can set people to death like telling them to build a road in hostile base
5) Priority is always repair -> roads/fields/wine -> buildings. You can wait for one building to finish and then order to build next one
6) Recruits in barracks eat. They come out from there if they are hungry.
Most of these things are game mechanics and none of fan patches "fix" that. Patch Service Release 2 adds some stuff like more fish in some missions or giving units more hp.

I'm also new to the game, but maybe I can help you
Resolution: Same problem on my desktop. I edited the setup.cfg in the Knights and Merchants folder. When you change the resolution to 3, K&M uses 1280x1024. Resolution 2 should be 1280x960
Unoffical Patch: I use beta 1.60 (service release 3) from http://knights.x10hosting.com. There is a long list for all changes. The best is that you can patch your language to dutch, german, hungarian, polish or russian.

Well, unfortunately they really eat.
As for gameplay, I could not make it past the tutorial. Green was destroyed easily but I was unable to destroy those Blue's towers (he covered them with bowmen).
After I had loaded the saved game (again...) I was able to be more patient not to send my troops toward the towers and after I attracted and massacred his bowmen I finished the tutorial.
BTW the trick with resolution works. Thanks!

I remember the demo being excessively difficult, took me over 6 hours to beat it
I spent over an hour with the demo on super-speed just to get to the point where I'm even supposed to send some massive army to fight our neighbors. Of course, I would then have to speed-run for another hour to have enough materials to build the army I need.. is this game REALLY paced so absurdly slow or am I missing something? How could a game developer actually install their product, start playing the tutorial, realize that they need to watch a peasant carry a tree somewhere for 20 minutes to build their first building, and then put that in a box and ship it?
Game should come with a 1/4 ounce.

I have tried it but the resolution is still the same.. Do I have to do something in registry? Or could you send me your Setup.cfg file to MenaMena@seznam.cz... thanks
I am using the 1.60 unofficial patch too...

The resolution is only different when you start a mission, as example the tutorial. It does not affect the starting menu and all other menu screens. If it is all ok, you can see the correct resolution in the right corner. This works for me for the normal and patched version of the game. Because it is a Win98 game, there are no registry entries. This game works out of the box, you can copy the folder on your usb-stick and play it without any problem on a different computer.
I don't think this will helpful for you, because except the resolution value everything is unchanged, but my setup.cfg looks like this:
!MOUSE_SPEED 15
!SOUND_VOLUME 65520
!MIDI_VOLUME 49140
!CD_VOLUME 26208
!MUSIC_TYPE 2
!PALETTE 1
!AUTOSAVE 0
!SCROLLING 0
!RESOLUTION 3
!LANGUAGE 1
!VIDEO 0 0 0
!PLAYER_NAME NoName
!NG_PLAYER_NAME "Unknown"
I hope you can get K&M to work properly.

THX a lot but i had another problem... But its working fine now :)
I had to "Run it as Administrator" becouse i am using Windows 7...
Menna, could you please share your resolution to this problem ?
I'm currently running the game under Windows 7, as administrator.
I changed the resolution to 3; but whenever I try to play it the game shuts down and gives me this error message: "DD: Generic Failure".
help would be appreciated :)

I need to mention, my screen is 1366x768.
so is there a way to play in 1280x768? or 1366x768?

No widescreen support, but 1024x768 is possible. About Win7: I have WinXP and so don't know the problems under Win7, but Menna mentioned to start the game as administrator. As far as I know this works by rightclick on the program file. Maybe this link can help you.
I have a question about language.
I want Czech language but on this GoG.com version i cant install it. If i copy/paste folder data with czech files then it doesnt work anyway :/
Can u help me someone ?? ...
( Ak sa nájde nejaký slovák / čech tak poraďte prosím)
The KaM Remake mod has lots of resolutions including widescreen ones and windowed mode!
It also has a Czech translation included, along with 10 other languages. Try it out, it is compatible with the GOG.com version :)
