Let me tell you how I go about this (caution, angry rambling ahead).

I bought all Sierra games (and 390 other games) on gog ONLY to support their cause in preserving old games and to show my interest in Sierra games and other old games. I want gog to see that people buy this stuff, so they should bring not only more of it, but also improve LACKING quality of existing content.

I know that throwing money in people that you know are doing a lousy job is the worst way to teach them a lesson, but they are the only people who are doing this sort of thing at all. Which only shows how unready consumers are to buy retro stuff.

Unfortunately most old games on gog are treated like shit. gog don't care, Activision doesn't care, buyers kind of care, but not too much. So I just dl the stuff I need, use innoextract to see how gog went about their next shitty compilation of whatever they found on the net or got from activision, laugh a little and just play dld stuff in scummvm, dosbox or whatever I feel like at the moment.

For example, I dled all available versions of KQ5 which are supported by scummvm and found out that I enjoy the mac version the most, because it has prettier icons, no extra walk icon and the music sounds nicer on my setup and it has no voice acting which I dislike quite a lot.

The next thing I did I downloaded a high res copy of user manual and put it in my smartphone. Then I found a text version of it in case I feel like staring at some ascii art in sublime text instead.
It was lovingly typed by hand by some fellow nerd (cudos to you my dear friend), also helps when you need to use cmd+f to actually f_ing find things you NEED (kq4s spells is a great example).

To finish it up, I downloaded a FANTASTIC fan soundtrack compilation recorded from a real MT-32 and post processed into an oblivion, loaded it up in itunes and had hours of musically induced fun!

Real. Premium Quality. Nerdy. Content. Shit. + Awesome Bonuses lovingly created for you by people as pathetic as you are (love you guys). All free on the internet.

So why in the world would I suffer through
-gog's crappy talkie versions, which they or activision or I don't care who prefer to put out instead of floppies
-idiotic bonus content - like, a couple sizes of a wallpaper they screengrabbed off of a scan of an old box as well as the f___ing avatars which are cropped shitty heads of characters from aforementioned wallpapers (serious bonus content business shit)
-their stupidest approach to compiling manuals (looks like the responsible person hired a monkey for this job, the manuals are the worst for so many games), pages are different sizes, differing page orientation, pages missing, manual for a random release of the game, preferring the worst of cause, most just stuff you can get on replacement docs, but only if you are really lazy
-wrapping of games in boxer or dated versions of scummvm, saves and configs stored n weird places
-remakes and hd updates of games, all of them sucking big time (wasteland, chaos engine to name the few, i bought too much of this shit, could have so many sandwiches instead :( ).
???

Hours and hours of enjoyable gaming and accompanying activities are just few clicks away from you without all this bullshit if you search the web. All info and files are out there. Just make sure you back it up in case you want to revisit this nerdiest of experiences in future or share it with others.

The problem here is that people who put this out sell games without playing and experiencing them. It's sad that gog is the only option we have and this option turned from a cool idea into a crap corporate sales pitch ridden shenanigans type of thing with support guys always ending their statements with smiley faces and telling that they are not too technical and that the responsibility is not theirs.

I don't discourage you to pay, I encourage you to play smart.

Happy gaming, lads.

Maybe it's a matter of opinion if one prefers the talkies, saying they should be removed because "you" don't like it is selfish and shallow, and would be better if GOG gave us both versions. Personally I grew up with a newer edition of KQ6 in which the character portraits were more beautifully designed. And guess what, it's not on here. Also guess what, I don't care. I am grateful I have access to Kings Quest at all. Seeing as the Steam version ripped me off, not compatible on any system past XP.

Never said "remove the talkies". As a major adventure gaming nerd I need them all, lol.

I just tend to enjoy simon the sorcerer, monkey island, bass talkies less and I don't like kq5s owl dude's voice and Graham bored intonations. Doesn't mean I don't play them. For example kq5 looks like a 90s cartoon without the overlay text and that's quite an interesting experience if you train yourself to perceive it that way. Hell, I even play amiga versions for fun (yep, some people have weird ways to have fun).

Just saying that if you REALLY need to play a particular version - download it quoteunquote elsewhere and play, don't suffer and moan that you need a different version on gog, up and supported on all major systems. No one's listening to that. I have no idea how to make gog or steam or whoever provide better service, release more versions of games and make them release books and osts and whatnot, obviously it's not profitable enough and they don't care.

All you can do is make it better yourself, research, try stuff, read internets, find manuals, buy old boxed versions, go out to flea markets, talk to people, torrent, join irc chatrooms, start your private invite-only gaming den. If you really need that missing page in the manual - you'll find people here on gog who have them. But only if you reeeealy need them.

And most importantly play.

If you don't play or play games and don't enjoy the process - all of the above is meaningless. Know tons of people who know and talk a lot about games don't play them, don't like them. But, boy, do they need all versions of each game released on steam and being played on 8.1 flawlessly.

I apologize for being harsh :( I should have paid more attention to what you were saying.

Personally, I prefer some Amiga versions myself solely because of the memories. Despite the current releases are either exactly the same, or decent enough :3

Mainly Ultima 6 and Monkey Island 2, when I was a little kid, playing those games on the Amiga felt like nothing short of pure magic <3 Also Pinball Fantasies.

Sometimes when I play certain games. If the opening music sounds just right, I say to myself "This totally feels like an Amiga game" because I get that same ambient feeling I get when loading up my Amiga favs. <3 I don't know what it is, Amiga had a type of soundchip that seemed to stand out from every other computer, making all their games sound just... blissful :3

The fancy version of KQ6 with the portraits is included. But you'll have to load up KQ6 on scumvmm, and choose the Windows version.

<3 how do I load scumvmm?
1. Download it from the scummvm website. Google it, its easy to find.

2. Install the 'exe' you downloaded.

3. Click Add game.

4. Direct it to the folder where KQ6 is installed.

5. Choose the windows version out of the two options shown.

6. It will now be on your game list, click on the game to load it up.

Thanks :D
I really hope they do get the other versions of the games, particularly the floppy version of KQV. The voice acting in the CD version is horrendous and the lack of subtitles mean I don't even have the option of muting the sound...
I have lots of nostalgia for KQV, but the voice acting isn't part of that so it's hard to forgive how horrible it is.
