I'm using Vista and I meet all the requirements. But when I load the game the screen goes black, it makes a noise like the opening movie is about to play. Then it boots me to the desktop. No error messages or warnings. Is anyone else having this trouble? Is there a solution for it?
I would love to play it since it's the only KQ game I haven't played. I tried getting it to run on my old machine when it was first released but 95 was the victor in that battle.
I tried the starttxt.txt method but it didn't help:
KING'S QUEST
MASK of ETERNITY
Install
Play
Sierra Utilities
Cancel

Emulators take a lot of processing. If you have a laptop make sure you have your power plan set to high performance if you want to get best out of your machine.

dgVoodoo is currently the faster wrapper right now, and has no problems with emulating the glide features used in KQ8. Zeckenseck was the best but dgVoodoo is equal to or exceeds the quality.

Do not use nGlide, it runs to a standstill. To get any use out of it you basically have to turn off all shadows, lighting, and other special effects in the menus.

I'm not sure but I think from what I've read, that shadows and lighting in KQ8 isn't using a true glide mod but a mix of hardware glide and software. This causes issues for nGlide, but dgVoodoo and Zeckenseck have no problems with it. Turning those features off also speeds up processing since it isn't relying too much on processor and emulating glide at the same time.

There are moments you made to turn off those bells and whistles anyways to get past certain glitches.
