Greetings!

I have an issue with the current GOG build of KQ8 where after starting a new game and choosing my difficulty, I always get a crash back to Windows that says "Mask of Eternity has stopped working"

1) I am using Nicode's kq8fix shim
2) I have the latest version of dgVoodoo (3dfx glide) installed
3) Running Windows 10 Pro, onboard Intel HD 620 Graphics
4) DirectX 9 runtime is installed

Thoughts? I have a CD version of the game somewhere in a box (recently moved) that I could use the installer from The Sierra Help pages to install, but I'd really like to get the GOG version running if at all possible.

Thanks,
Purduecoz

Sorry about answering my own question, but I finally figured it out. I recommend that you do NOT install King's Quest 8 under Program Files (x86). Once I installed it to a path under C:\GOG everything was fine.
Added a manifest for the Mask.exe to the TODO list. :-)

Is there a reason why you prefer the GOG release?

Since we just completed a move, my CDs are all still in storage and not accessible. So, definitely no technical reason I prefer the GOG release... but from a logistical standpoint, it's tough to beat digital! What would be ideal would be for GOG to beef up their digital release to the level of quality that your shim (and collector's installer) provides.
