It's been a very long time since I've looked into any news of a remake for King's Quest 4. I saw that a couple years ago Unicorn Tales was working on a remake. They updated their blog in March this year claiming they are still working on it (last blog update was just a couple weeks ago). Has anyone played the demo? I watched a little of it on YouTube and am wondering if it's worth the time playing through the demo.

I have read that the woman who spear-headed the project died, so the project was cancelled

Whoa! That is way sad if that's true. :(
From what I read in the forums, one of the original artists, who actually started the project, Karen, did pass away, but they are still working on the remake. A new artist has joined the crew. No news on a release date though

Personally, I wish AGD Interactive would do it. They did such an amazing job with the first three King's Quest games and the 2nd Quest For Glory game (their versions of those games should be considered adventure game classics). So, any company that does put out a remake of "King's Quest 4" wil be hard-pressed to match the job that AGD Interactive did with their remakes.

On the other hand, if a remake of KQ4 is done, I'll probably find myself making comparisons to AGD Interactive, but in the end I'll still be VERY happy with it as long as it's reasonably well-done

That is sad news about Karen but good news for the game!

I agree. I have been trying to figure out for a few years why AGD Interactive hasn't tackled it. I would think that since they've been able to do four other Sierra games that they should be able to do this one, too. But maybe there's a legality issue behind it? Sierra/Activision is up and running with the new KQ game that came out last year and is still releasing new chapters, so maybe they stopped giving companies permission to work on games. I have no clue. Someone should contact AGD and ask. :)

I believe they're on record as having said they're done producing fan games. The first two KQ games took a long time to develop, and TBF took a long time as well. After their release of KQ3, which came as something as a nice surprise to the community, they decided to focus their efforts on producing original, commercial games.

Bummer. I would gladly pay for them to make KQ4, but I'm sure they don't have permission to sell a remake.
Here's the official statement on future remakes:

What game will you remake next? Will you remake any of the Space Quest games or King's Quest 4?

No. Once we have finished tying up all the loose ends with our current project, we will not be remaking any more Sierra games. Unfortunately, the time required to create games as detailed and complex as these is no longer something that we have the resources or time to do pro-bono. Making these games requires an immense amount of dedication, willpower, commitment, and a great number of personal sacrifices. And while we have learned many valuable things from remaking these titles over the years, the situation has certainly taken its toll on us. However, we plan to carry over our skills by creating original commercial adventure games at Himalaya Studios. So if you have enjoyed our Sierra game remakes, and if you appreciate the fruits of our labor, then please do support us in our commercial endeavor so that we can remain true to the adventure game genre, and continue doing what we love!

Yup. Sadly, we will get no more free remakes from AGD Interactive.

Hi! I know that there's been quite a while since this topic was raised, but I have news for you! Here’s something I’ve recently whipped up using the resources of all the fan groups that have tried to remake King’s Quest 4 in the VGA glory throughout the years. It is also my tribute to their hard work. I had to do quite a bit of tinkering with the existing remade graphics, added my versions of all the missing backgrounds, altered some animations and recorded all the voice-overs to make it work and look coherent. It can ONLY work while bundled with the ORIGINAL game (King’s Quest 4). For more details, please read the description under the video on YouTube.

So far, King's Quest 4 is the only game in the series that doesn't have a VGA version or remake. It seems unfair.

It's too bad that AGD won't remake the game. They could have continued the story of the Father and focused on the second of his curses.

Other good ideas if they had remade the game:

-New locations, including the town.
-New characters. The ones already in the game are now better fleshed out.
-Voice acting
-New tasks given by Lolotte
-'Meanwhile' cutscenes that show what is happening back home in Daventry
-The unicorn is now capable of speech. The subplot around it ends more positively with the unicorn forgiving Rosella, understanding that she was Lolotte's unwilling servant and that she is now dead. It is the unicorn that could have given Rosella a ride down the mountain.
-Pandora's Box now plays a more significant role in the game story as the Father plans to use it to bring about the new age. Failing to secure it in the crypt once more can change the ending for the worse.
-Multiple endings with more variations than King's Quest 6.
-The ending can change depending on if:

-Time runs out and Lolotte is either dead or alive.
-Graham dies because you never found the fruit or you found and ate it.
-You are forced into marriage with Edgar.
-You return to Daventry with the fruit.
-The final location of Pandora's Box.

It would have been a great sequel to the fantastic game that was KQ3 Redux.
