I've been playing this game for a few days. It's not the traditional KQ game, but I like the darker atmosphere. However, I couldnt help but notice that the performance is abyssmally bad. My gaming laptop has a NVIDIA GTX 3050 Ti, and I can run many games with 60FPS. It puzzled me that with a game released in 1998, I was getting less than 15FPS consistently.
I was sniffing around in the game files, opening some of them with a text editor. In a file called console.cs, there is a line that says "KQGame::FPSLimit 15". So I thought to myself, "let's try changing the value to 60 and see what happens". After launching the game, my FPS counter suddenly read as 30-ish, and it didnt go any higher after playing for 5 mins. So I opened the file again, and changed the value from 60 to 120. After running the game several times, my FPS counter stays around 60. I did this on multiple game exits/runs to be sure my results were consistent. At times it briefly drops to 50, but no less, and quickly returns to 60-ish after a second or two.
I tried values even higher than 120, but i was never able to get an FPS above 60, so I figure that the game FPS must be hardcapped to 60.
The game still feels a bit sluggish, but at the same time I can just tell that performance is better. I just figured i'd post this tip here for anyone struggling. I'm kinda surprised it hasnt been posted already. Also, I'm using nGlide with the game. In the game my graphics output is set to 3DFX, resolution is set to 800x600. However, with nGlide my resolution is upscaled to 1920x1080.
I'm hoping that some players here try my tip and report their results here.
