cwadge: Sweet, let me know if you have any feedback. FatBoy is still a WIP, and I'm looking to file down all the rough edges before it reaches v1.0.
I'm not the best one to juge project like this. I never had Roland so I don't have "a nostalgic ear" and when I compare different versions on YT I can tell the diffrence only if I jump for 5 sec. from one to another :)
So for me your soundfont sounds great! :D
I'm trying Fatboy in dosbox, and mostly loving it. It's very good on some games, but Krondor's theme for example sounds discordant. The problem is the choir instrument not meshing well with the others. Also in MI2's theme, the flute is far too harsh. Sounds great in TIE Fighter and X-Wing though -- the brass is top notch.

Sounds like you're unhappy with the flute in both cases. I'm actually working on building a completely new GM concert flute out of raw samples from the University of Iowa Electronic Music Samples library. It's still a work in progress, but this is how it sounds so far.
That sounds promising! I'm so impressed by the effort you're putting into this.
Development continues. There have been a few minor updates of FatBoy since I've last posted, but I have been somewhat stalled on the extended MIDI standards. To remedy this, I've bit the bullet and imported a used Roland SC-D70 from Japan (currently en route). While I obviously won't be using any samples from this hardware, as they're copyrighted and Roland probably wouldn't look on that very kindly, it will serve as a reference for some of the more obscure parts of the GS and GM2 standards. That should help get things back on track. :)

I am quite in love with the UHD take on the soundfont for KQ5. This is shy, just, of the symphony orchestra treatment it truly deserves. I would also, while wishing openly, wish for a version that features this level of sound quality, restored text boxes AND high-quality voice acting to match. That may remain a wish for some time. I am just glad to have gotten to play it once and again, and again...

Please keep up the good work and keep us posted if there is any way we can help if development continues.
