So I hadn't played this in a while and decided to get back in. I double click the icon, get a spinning wheel, my screen blinks for a second...then nothing, as in my usual screen just stares back at me. I uninstalled, then reinstalled with the new GOG installer, double clicked and...nothing. I used the GOG installer to "Force" a review/repair, double clicked and...nothing. I even forced a new install. No icon appears on my desktop anymore, so I'm launching from the GOG application (or at least trying to). I don't even care if the saved games are gone, even though I was pretty deep into the game, so whatever I need to do to fix this within the realm of realism (I'm not getting a new computer for this) is great. The only thing that has changed since I last played this was my widescreen monitor blew out and I had to go back to a icky square one until the new one arrives later this month.
