I bought this game for Christmas but finally just got around to playing it last night. Last night I played it for around 2 hours with no problems, but today it keeps crashing around every 30 minutes. When it crashes the game basically freezes up so bad that the only way I can fix it is by completely turning off my PC. I'm not particularly computer savvy, so does anyone have an idea about how to fix this?

Well… can you give some info on your system?

What OS are you running? Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)?
What Video card do you run with? Do you have your latest Video drivers updated?

I've had two things that slow my game so bad that it's as good as frozen. One of these might be an issue for you, but they also might not.

#1. My computer has on-board graphics and a graphics processor in the PCI-e slot. If the computer boots with the on-board graphics, it can slow everything down to a snail's pace. It rarely does it, but it occasionally does. (I'm hoping my new PSU will stop the problem)

#2. My virus scanner sometimes starts up while I'm playing a game. It can churn so hard that it slows everything down to a snail's pace.

Other good reasons games freeze that I know of
- Bad RAM. You can run RAM checks with some programs, I know. But I don't know much about it. My bro had an issue with this.

- Video card drivers aren't updated (try running windows update and get your latest drivers to everything)

- Bad power supply (a component is losing power and it totally messes up your computer)

Ridiculous but entirely plausible reasons for a crash:
- Gremlins inside your computer stop the wheels from turning by sacrificing themselves and jumping into the cogs.
- Your PAUSE/BREAK button is too heavy and accidentally pushes itself periodically and it pauses your game.

The more info you give, we might be able to figure out what's going on. Also, if you are getting any blue screens or if windows says its sending an error message when you boot back up, give us that info too.
I'm running Vista 64, and my graphics card is an Nvidia 9500 GS. I've heard some complaints about the game crashing on Vista 64 with certain Nvidia cards, so I might be having that issue. My drivers are up-to-date.

Well.. Just in case you have not tried these… here are some ideas.

Try turning your anti aliasing off.
Play with the same resolution as your desk top.
Make sure your game is set to the same Hz as your monitor.

Also check your data/game.ini and data/default.ini file make sure your setting are matching.. Like..
Screen resolution and refresh rate of your monitor.

Make sure your video card is not over heating.. Fans working etc..

Hope one of them helps.. Just guessing really.

Thanks. I made the first three changes and, so far, the problem seems fixed. I just played for around an hour and a half with no issues.

Cool! Hopefully it stays stable.. fun game! =)
I tried some of the solutions above to no avail. However, under Windows 7, I found that switching to the desk top (using Alt + Tab) and clicking on the game icon on the task bar brought up a small white dialogue box with an option to retry. This restored the game. Repeat every time it crashes.
