I've been playing the game for about 3 weeks and it's my first turn-based RPG. Recently I've run into a problem in some of my combat screens where I can't directly target an enemy with spells, range attacks, or even direct attacks from an adjacent square. I just get a question mark cursor when I place it over the enemy unit. I first experienced this when attacking Lucky James, and later when storming the castle in the mines. I just had it happen in combat in the cemetary. It seems to be getting more frequent. When I turn on auto-combat, the computer is able to target all squares normally, but if I turn it back off, I'm still stuck.
Has anyone else seen this? Is it a feature of the game that I need some spell or weapon to overcome? I'm only at level 11, but I don't want to go much further if I have to rely on auto-combat the whole way.
Definitely a bug, although not one I've run into or heard about. I've run into something a bit similar where combat will basically just hang (usually seems to be a friendly or enemy unit trying to take action, but for some reason not being able to complete the action), but I don't recall this resulting in the cursor being stuck in info mode. The only suggestion I can come up with (and I'll admit this is reaching quite a bit), is that the info mode can be toggled with the Shift key (if memory serves), so check that your Shift key isn't stuck or otherwise sending a constant signal to the game (hey, I said I was reaching with this).
Thanks for the hint. The SHIFT key didn't work, but it got me thinking about other special keys, so I tried them all. The FUNCTION key did the trick. I still don't know how I'm getting into that mode, but at least I can turn it off and get on with the battle.
It's been a long time since I played a game this addictive. It's swallowing whole afternoons. I'll be looking for more games like this now.
