I installed "Kingpin" through the Gog Galaxy, but it doesn't work. It just shows black for a seond and then shows nothing.

Are you using a laptop?

Yes, I'm using a laptop, although I don't understand why that should matter. In any case, neither of your links helped me. I paid about $30 for some "zip" software to try to download the fix, to no avail. I guess I will try to get Gog to reimburse me for the cost of the game so I can get SOME of my money back. What a waste of money.

Sorry that the fixes didn't work for you.
A lot of people have problems running Kingpin on a laptop (especially if using on board Intel graphics). Those fixes usually rectify the problem.
Some people can't get Kingpin to run because their monitor doesn't support the resolutions used in Kingpin. The MH patch usually rectifies that by allowing custom resolutions to be set (as well as containing a lot of other tweaks and fixes).
Also sorry you spent money on some zip software. A lot of people just use the trial versions of winzip or winrar.

The Monkey Harris unofficial patch fixes many bugs and has lots of tweaks. Most ppl in the Kingpin community are using it.

Apart from bug fixes and tweaks it also allows custom resolutions, adds new options to the Visuals menu,and adds the current Kingpin multiplayer server list to your Gangbang menu.

It would be great if GoG added this patch to the Kingpin Goodies you can download.
