I bought KCD2 this morning on GOG and have been playing the last ~8h.

But just now I died while trying to go down a cliff side... no problem, just load the last save...

But suddenly the opening scene was playing, and I was confused as to why.

AND NOW ALL MY SAVES ARE GONE O_O

WTF happened ? Is that a known bug ?


I did some searching on Google, and apparently when you start a new game, all your old saves get deleted. But i didn't start a new game, I just loaded the last save game. There were no warning messages or anything...

Is there any way to recover my save games ? ( I already tried recuva, but all it did was find partially overwritten data :( )

I saw a thread somewhere that after 500 files it might have a bug, but 8h is not enough to generate that many saves.

Your folder is empty? Could it be a cloud-sync issue?

Unfortunately, we can't recover your lost save files.

New game option is only accessible in the main menu and death screen, not in the pause menu. I believe you accidentally deleted your playline because of that, sorry.

I accepted it and started again, with a save game I downloaded that skipped to the point right after you arrive in Troskowitz. ( saved me a bit of time )

but I also set up a windows Task Scheduler that backups the save game folder every 10 minutes, just to make sure it doesn't happen again ;)

But can I ask: why does the game delete all saves when starting a new game in the first place ?
Why not just create a second payline ?
I mean, the save game folder is literally named "playline0" why not just create a new folder "playline1" for a new game ?

That would make deleting all your save games accidentally a lot harder.
