Now that a bunch of updates have been released for the IOS version, do you think the GOG version will also get some updates and added content? Would love an expansion pack.

I would love to see updates and added content. Hell, I would pay extra for an upgrade.

However, the King of Dragon Pass blog by David Dunham stated there would be nothing more for the PC version. Shame really, but I understand.

Some of the problems he stated is just the age of the game, and the changes in the systems, etc. Hell, I'm grateful GOG even got it to work :)
That's a pity, it's one thing if the game just isn't being supported but if they are supporting it on one platform but not another. *shrug* Guess I will do some research on developers and only buy from ones where I know the PC is their core platform.
It's all in the context. The old PC game on GOG was the original version. It had a good support for quite some time (especially considering that's OPAL's first and only game), and then support more or less ended. But they were still there on the forums, and they still sold the CD by mail order. GOG gave a second life to what was more or less an already dead game.

The IOS version is far FAR more recent, and was quite a surprise. It came 10-12 years after the original game! So it's logic that it got some more content and is still supported. And I'm happy to see the devs still care for their work enough to port it on another platform a whole decade after the initial release.

I regret not having access to the new content myself, but I'm happy GOG and Opal gave me a chance to play again in the world of Glorantha :)

Oh, I definitely agree with you in general MichaelFurlong. However, I think in specific instances (like this one), it can be forgiven.

As Kardwill pointed out, the game is definitely over 10-12 years old, and was basically defunct on PC. Hell, I never herd of it before GoG...if I had, I would definitely have got it earlier.

Heh, and if I ever purchase an Iphone/Ipad, KoDP is definitely on my must by list.

In some ways, I hope if the iOS and GoG versions do well enough, they may consider doing a sequel or something.

No, for a bunch of technical reasons, we can’t update the game which came out in 1999 (with a development system that was discontinued in 1998). http://kingofdragonpass.blogspot.com/2011/01/back-patching.html goes into this.
Hmmm, okay all. I agree, maybe I am being a bit harsh considering the age of the game. I should treat the IOS version as a sort of half sequel.

It's a damn entertaining game, not played anything quite like it. I'm just sulking that I won't get the opportunity to play with all the goodies. I will keep an eye out on the studio to see if they make any similar games in future.

I have given everyone + rep as you have been quite reasonable!

What are the chances of a sequel? : )

That's true, I wish more classic games were updated to work on more modern hardware. Can't complain if they add features to their new releases and don't add them to the decade old version.

Oh, it's quite alright. Heh, when one comes to love a game, they want more for it. At least the GoG version is fairly stable. I don't know how many games from big name companies (like EA) which were never fixed with a final patch because the company decided to move on.

Agreed 100% There are some good games, but nothing quite like KoDP. In many ways, I wish more simulation games took a few pages from the KoDP events to keep things interesting in addition to the normal build/expand model.
What does the update to the iOS version add anyway?

I did read from somewhere in that blog that they're grateful for GOG, who managed to made digital download version of the game which works with modern systems. They had tried themselves, but failed, because apparently jury-rigging the game so that it works is a lot harder than many people think, thanks to unsupported development system.

Therefore it's understandable that they don't patch it anymore. I assume that if they would like to add more stuff they would have to redesign the entire game by using new development system. Naturally, as I don't own phone which can run King of Dragon Pass, I would love to see new PC version or a sequel, but at this point I think it's unlikely to happen.

What does the update to the iOS version add anyway?
Most of these are referenced at some point on the blog David Dunham linked above.

However, to summarize:

* New events

* New treasures

* Several moves to lessen bookkeeping. For example, in the PC version we have sheep, pigs, cattle, and horses to keep track of. In the iOS version, they lump the sheep, pigs, and cattle into 'Herds'. (They may do so for horses as well). Another big one is during the Sacred Time, when you can assign magic to several areas, they removed the 'Children' category.

* Several bugfixes...such as access to treasures that don't seem to fire in the PC one.

* A big fact is that they are still updating/adding new things to the iOS version.

Don’t forget, you don’t need a phone. KoDP runs great on iPod touch, and even better on iPad.

Blog entries like http://kingofdragonpass.blogspot.com/2011/09/whats-new.html

And one big feature: the game can be played by blind players on an equal footing with sighted players, enabled by iOS’s VoiceOver technology.

BTW, those “lost treasures” still aren’t in the game, but will be in an upcoming iOS update.

My mistake, thanks for the correction.

Any word on if KoDP is coming out for Android too?
Any chance we could at least get a PC port of the iOS version?
