I just started playing King of Dragon Pass for the first time a few days ago... and as one might expect, it's quickly taken over the vast majority of my free time since then. Certainly the best $2 I ever spent. It's a truly amazing game. I only wish $2 could always buy this kind of quality...

I've learned most of the game by playing it and the things I just couldn't figure out, I've found answers for on the wiki. However, the noble/thane system is still a bit of a mystery to me.

I'm assuming there isn't, but is there some secret/special way to select which nobles are kept in your reserve pool or to kick the less useful ones out and have new nobles generated? Stats can be trained by hero quests of course but if you need a noble who worships a specific god and don't have them, you seem to be out of luck then.

I also see that my clan statistics will show I have, say, 40 nobles in the clan, yet I only see, maybe 15 or 16 in the reserve pool. Not sure if that number is counting weapon thanes or not.

So far, the only way I've found that seems to allow me to get a new noble generated, besides just waiting for them to die of old age or in a raid... is to basically send the least useful nobles on "suicide" exploration missions with just 3 footmen. I'm still not sure if sending nobles out to die like this is a good idea or not. But, as far as I can tell, I haven't suffered any sort of penalties for doing so, yet.

The main reason I'm doing this is because I keep getting Chalana Arroy nobles with terrible stats generated in my reserve pool and I already have enough priest-nobles.

So, is this the only way to quickly get access to new nobles for your clan ring? Is it okay to send nobles out to die?

Some advice would be appreciated, thank you!

No secrets, this is all in the manual (or http://a-sharp.com/kodp/tips.html).

Individuals are called by the gods, there is no way to influence this.

Some individuals are of noble status but are really not leadership material (such as the husbands and wives of the named nobles).

Weaponthane status can be granted or lost, so they’re not counted among the nobles.
