So I've been having MAJOR issues with this game and I've never dealt with this kind of stuff before. I'm actually worried it might cause physical damage to my GPU - please assuage my fears and help me get this up and running!

First, I'm running an i5, GTX 460 and Win 7 64 bit - I seem to be fine with system speccs. My default resolution is 1920 X 1080.

When I first started the game, I could get to the main menu screen but then I'd crash. Load again, crash. Load again, main menu, artifacting, crash. Load again and start getting display driver kernal failure and recovery warnings from Windows. I tried running the game (always full screen) from the "launcher" menu with Vsync on and off, and in a lower resolution (1280 X 1024). Eventually the artifacting actually persisted TO MY DESKTOP. It caused general display failure and a reboot or two. I started to worry my GPU was fried, but booting into Linux showed I was okay on that front (I assume).

I spent the last hour or so wiping and reinstalling Nvidia drivers. My Windows boot seems okay (no more artifacting or reboots in the OS). I saw a "fix" for kernal failure that suggested changing game specific Nvidia Control Panel settings to "Maximum Power" under power management and disabling Vsync from the same menu. This didn't work, last attempt to load the game caused a hard lock of my computer.

I HAVE NOT yet checked to see if I have updated drivers - but these were the most recent as of roughly 2 months ago - 364.72 if that matters to anyone.

My question is - am I risking major physical damage to my GPU by attempting to get this up and running? I don't mind troubleshooting, but I REALLY don't want to fry my GPU or something worse - is it possible for a game to even do this? When the artifacting persisted into my desktop and started causing system locks / reboots I got really worried. Any clue what's going on?

Like I said, I've NEVER encountered anything like this in a game before. I've had 0 issues with this GPU and I'm pretty sure I've run far more taxing games than this one.

What's going on, can anyone help and could I have potentially already damaged my computer?
Well, definitely fried. Pretty ticked off right now actually and will contact support tomorrow.

Fired up a 3d game I was playing last night, just to make sure my card was okay (Kabuto) and it immediately hardlocked the computer and showed just green "blobs" and black screen. Artifacting then persisted during bootup (don't think it had previously) and eventually the monitor wouldn't even receive a signal once Windows (presumably) loaded. I'm guessing something went south badly and 2D survived a bit longer than 3D? But it's all dead now.

Pulled the GPU, running off integrated. How does something like this happen? At this point I'm furious, but also a bit curious.

How does software take a card from never overclocked, perfectly functioning to fried without ever getting by the main menu? Like I said, I've certainly run more taxing games without issue - it's not like I tried to run Battlefield at 4K on my poor little card - this game shouldn't have done this.

Bummed :(

Sorry to hear this, but have you considered the possibility that your gpu was on its way out when you loaded the game? I have heard of some games allegedly causing overheating issues with some gpu's (Age of Wonders 3) but this is rare and not 100% confirmed and have not heard of this on this game. That doesn't mean it doesn't just that it is rarer than you think..

I had considered that (and support seems to think that's the case as well) but it was just so sudden. I'd been playing other 3D games that I assume were more taxing than this one (Hand of Fate, System Shock Demo) along with Vampire Bloodlines and Kabuto all in the past week or two - all no issues.

My case is well ventilated and set up for temperature alerts - I have had none. No artifacting prior, no surprise crashes, nothing. I've never had any issues whatsoever and the card was running along like the day I bought it new ~3 years ago.

The only anomaly was when I first ran the launcher for Kenshi and I received a Kenshi pop up notice that it had changed my Nvidia Control settings. All I thought was "Odd, nothing's ever done that before" and then I immediately proceeded to progress from lockups to artifacting to artifacting out of game to hard lockups to dead. Out of the blue.

I'm a lay person, but the crash logs even looked like they initially queried my GPU and everything was fine. Then the game started running and *poof.*

Are you with the Dev Team? If you like, chat me an email and I'll send you my crash logs. Or contact GoG support - I've already submitted them there (though obviously the support staff here can't really do to much with them).
I don't feel like creating a LoFi games forum account if it isn't needed.

The only thing that makes me unsure it's Kenshi is that quick searches don't seem to indicate others have had issues - but I'm not sure if that's because the game hasn't been very widespread or if this was just an unlucky case of Kenshi being the game that pushed my GPU over the limit.
I've run Kenshi many hours by now (way to many hours to be honest), but experienced no issues related to my Graphics card. I run this game with a GTX660. I would be surprised if Kenshi ruined you graphics card.

Hopefully the performance update gets here pretty soon. Since update 0.93.14 the game runs often really slow on my system (i7 3770, gtx 660 and 16 GB ram). Still loving the game though. Learning something new every time I play.

Probably the case of just bad luck on Kenshi's part. I've fired it up again for very short bouts - it's gorgeous on the new (to me) card.

Any pointers for the early game - either interface / UI / gameplay "must knows" that are easy to miss or just starting off tips? I found in my short time with the game, I do a lot of running around not really sure what to do.

I have a 3090 and I get the same kind of problem. I can tell you it's the game.

You just necro'd to brag...
I've got one, too. Way overpriced for what it is.
