How do I prevent bandits from raiding my outpost?

I built a wall (level 1), which came down in like 10sec by hungry bandits.

The first named bandit was polite and I paid up to not be raided... the hungry bandits plain destroyed my walls and knocked us out.

While I was face down in the dirt, pretending to be dead, they raided our houses. Then the next named bandit raid began, and then a next and then a next. At times there are 3-4 different bandit groups in our outpost, running around because there is nothing to loot and nothing to kill.

This all happened in one day.

In the meantime a comrade and myself managed to crawl/sneak out of our outpost to the next town and mended our wounds. But our outpost is still overrun the next day.

p.s. OK, I changed the setting to no random groups try to attack my outposts and the other are very rare. Now, the bandit groups left and I took back the outpost from the hungry bandits, one by one.

the game is pretty unforgiving like that. I myself stay in a town until i have a reasonable level of tech and some toughened up squaddies at least. - though by that time ive also usually managed to make enemies of more than one faction and suffer their targeted raids.

before getting an outpost going though, its really worth getting a couple of dedicated turreteers to man some crossbows atop a building or walls.

while I realise youve somewhat resolved your situation, hopefully this info will be of use to somebody browsing the forum down the line. :)
part of the mechanics of the game
if you lose, they take over your outpost. though i think they supposed to throw you out once they win.

Yes, but I used the "default" setting for bandit raids and it was devastating.

There are still some Holy Nation paladins ante portas, but they are good because they kill of any boneman coming near my settlement and seem to be stuck there in a loop. :P

well its supposed to be devastating if you are unable to hold it.
and if you live in a area with lots of different mobs, then you will get more attacks then other areas.
