So, I just downloaded and installed JP3. First time I started up the game, the Red Orb splash screen + presto splash screen videos did not play.

When I start the game and try to move around it is obvious that any of the quicktime video's that are supposed to show transition between 1 point to the next are not playing. When what's his face, help bot shows up and starts talking to me in his space suit, I can hear the voice, but the helmet is empty, there is no face in it, talking to me....

I'm hoping for a solution, and soon... This is not the first time I've had issues w/ GOG games... If getting this to run is going to be anything like trying to get Theif to run......................... I swear I'll scream.

The movies use the cinepak codec, which has been included as standard with windows practically since the dawn of time. Do you have any other codec packs which may be interfering? If you've got something like k-lite/ffdshow/etc installed, make sure the game isn't loading them. (Although for ffdshow at least, the cinepak codec is disabled by default, so that shouldn't be causing problems.)
I have not installed any codec packs since my last re-format. I do install and use VLC player regularly, but I don't think that would interfere.

Anyhow, I'll look int to a new cinepac codec. Thanks for the tip.

BTW, running Windows XP.

EDIT: Nope. Definetly not interference from a different codec pack, as I've never installed one. Moreover, I can watch the video files themselves (from the data directory) in either quicktime or VLC Media player. I only installed quicktime seven just yesterday thinking perhaps a quicktime installation was required in order to view the videos. Prior to and following installation of quicktime 7, the problem has persisted.

EDIT EDIT: I should also mention that during the splash screen, I can hear the audio from the file, IE: The Red Orb WOOOSH noises play which are incorporated in to the video file. I can watch the red orb splash screen video in either VLC or Quicktime, but not in the game application.

Is it wrong that I'm annoyed? I mean, I realize the game is only 5 dollars, but when I get excited to play something only to find that I have to waste my precious time after work puttsing around with my computer... Sigh...
