I want to apologise in advance for the wanton display of fanboyism which is about to occur...
OMG OMG OMG! Journeyman's finally on GOG! I love you! I love these games! The whole trilogy takes my top spot on the list of "my fave games ever". They were almost toppled by Chrono Trigger at one point (I seem to love time travel themes) but I just couldn't replace this work of art!
Gage Blackwood and his sidekick(don't want to ruin it) are the best duo in any adventure game I've ever played. There's a perfect balance between informative and useful(providing hints). And there's just a lot of humour and personality integrated into conversations.
The other thing is. The original came out before Myst. Yet Myst got all the glory. Not only does this series (in my opinion) have better graphics than Myst, it plays out more like a traditional adventure game (think monkey island) rather than the "puzzles surrounded by pretty backdrops" of Myst. So yes, I'm a little bitter against Myst (however Presto were roped in to make the third game in that series).
And the music, oh God the music. It may be the only soundtrack which gives me goosebumps to this day (*points at arm* see, I'm getting them now just remembering it).
Anyway, to sum up: Buy this if you like adventure games, buy this if you like Myst, buy this if you like time travel storylines. And just buy it to honour the passion of a group of developers who left the industry way too soon*.
Thank you, GOG :).
*I must point out however, that individual people from Presto are with "in" the industry at other larger publishers or making iPhone/iPad apps.
