I just grabbed JA2 today, and was curious if there was a way to put it into windowed mode (so I can multitask and chat while I play, and whatever else). I googled for quite a bit and tried a variety of suggestions, but I have had no luck. I have tried -w, -win, and /WINDOW after the command line (as suggested by one site) and edited the .ini fle to include "SCREEN_MODE_WINDOWED=1" suggested elsewhere.
Just curious if there are any other suggestions out there, without going through mods or setting up a virtual pc and such. As much as I want windowed mode, I don't want to have to go through that hassle to play a game, and will stick to full screen.

have you tried alt+enter?

Since Kurina said that she didn't want to install a mod, I would suggest installing the updated JA2 stracciatella engine from ja2.dragonriders.de

It will let you play in windowed mode by pressing ALT+Enter, as well as eliminating a whole bunch of bugs, without actually changing gameplay like the 1.13 mod. I tested the new engine and really recommend it.

Both the site and version are old ones and site is no longer used.
New Stracciatella site can be found here and the latest version is 0.12.1.

Instant, the JA2 stracciatella engine readme mentions about modifying the ja2.ini file. I've tried it with no success. Could you please post your ja2.ini? Thank you

I can't get it to work either. I believe I've typed the path correctly in the ja2.ini file.

Its expecting the MAPS.SLF file to be in the Data folder. You have to move the file out of the "Jagged Alliance 2\Data\Campaigns\Unfinished Business" folder to "Jagged Alliance 2\Data\" folder.

The engine starts but I get a runtime error "Number of tilesets in code does not match data file."

My guess is its not made for Unfinished Business. If anyone else can figure this out it would be great.
