I already own a boxed copy of JA2 (picked it up back when it was released) and I have patched it to 1.07 I saw a patch 1.12 available but it appears to be for the gold version (is the GoG version gold version)? I thought I saw that GoG was already patched to 1.12. I am curious which patch I should be using.
I love that GoG gets these games ready for modern operating systems so I am testing a few of my oldies out and getting ready to buy a few more from GoG! Great service!

You should be able to use the patch on your version. Have you not tried the 1.13 patch?
Thanks for the post robobrien! I tried the 1.12 but it tells me that I do not have JA2 Gold installed on my system. I think I may have tried the 1.13 mod quite some time ago but do not recall if it changed gameplay far beyond "fixes". I may try the mod again..you recomend it? I wonder what the general thoughts on the 1.13 are for someone starting anew.
Thanks!

For some reason i briefly thought the version i playing was my old JA2 cd, it's not i have the Gold version on Steam...so yeah you will need that one.

1.13 is a must for me now, i think if you play through JA2 vanilla (which still rocks!) and want more then definitely give it a try. Some of the things it adds...

Higher resoultion, added weather effects, totally new inventory system, weapons, gear, items, you can configure a ton of options to your own taste, order miltia to points on the map or have them patrolling.

The A.I is much improved, enemies will flank, snipe, use supressing fire and actively use higher ground - climbing onto rooftops or getting their ass off one.
You can create more than one custom merc and have total control of his/her abilities.

Once you take Drassen though their is the infamous 'Drassen Attack' where you will have a short time to prepare for what is a pretty hectic firefight :) There is a way to disable it though if you find it to tough.

So while 1.13 adds a whole bunch of content (and their are many other total conversions that use 1.13) it will make the game harder than previous plus all the new items and gear can intially be a pain to wade through and sort out.

Decided to take the plunge into 1.13 The gameplay seems solid and unchanged for the most part although I am sure the difficulty will be tougher as you explained. Had one unusual glitch where I could not get back to the gameworld because it would not unpause from within the screen where you set travel destination/acsess laptop etc...other than that so far so good! the inventory system is kind of confusing me and I will most likely need to rummage around the bearpit web site forums for info on how it all works
Thanks again!

Cool hope you enjoy it.

The choice and number of assault vests got on my nerves a bit at first. Use the Three Day Packs (i think their called), they are good containers, the backpacks are good to, but stop a merc from being able to climb or even hop over a fence.

And watch out for snipers!
One of your mercs will make a comment if there are snipers in an area. I don't remember the exact wording, but if they tell you to be on your guard, you should expect snipers.

The new inventory system confused me at first too but now I'm used to it. 1.13 also gives vehicles inventory space which can be very handy since they have now maximum weight allowance.
Just reading this thread, as I"m not on here a lot.
I have a 1.12 EN patch which I think is NOT the gold version.
If you're still interested I"ll upload it somewhere.
