Any tactical tips on how to take him down? I'm at the very beginning of the game, only killed 15 soldiers. Because I play on Ironman, reloading in combat isn't an option.
Finally did it, probably not the best tactic, but I did it by waiting until dark, then sneak to the building with 2 camoflaged mercs. Both of them wore the best armor I had, which was at most kevlar. Then I put them in 2 different locations on the south of the building and climbed the building almost simultaneously. Of course, one of them took a lot of damage, but the other one got 3 head shots. The 4th or 5th head shot took him down.
This is such a difficult game. It cease to be fun when you have to keep reloading all the time. I'm now playing with an 8 man team, all good mercs in one way or another, and I am trying to kill off an area full of buildings where the soldiers are waiting inside. How do you succeed here (Ironman mode)? There is a large fan in the area.

Usually I get the first attack when sneaking up to a window or opening a door, but sometimes, they get first attack and that's enough to kill one of my mercs.
Throwing rocks never works to distract them, and it's not always room to sneak behind them.
I'm thinking of just using all of my explosives on all buildings and pick off the snipers with a night op merc with UV glasses at night.
If I remember correctly, you can blow up the fan. After blowing it up, you can enter it. It's kind of a shortcut.

It's been a long time since I played this game, so I'm not sure.
It was hard, but doable.
It's nice to play this after you've finished JA2 and when you still have JA2 installed. You can import your mercs from JA2.

Yeah it's hard. I need some tactic. Three of my mercs are imported and Manuel said we could use the fan when the alarm sounds or just blow it up.
I didn't get that far though. It's still a struggle to kill people inside buildings that are waiting. Maybe I will try some time again by blowing everything up or something, including the fan.
As I said, I can't remember. I haven't played this game in a long time.
I do remember finding it easier to do this game with the mercs I finished JA2 with than starting fresh.
My advice would be to go there at night. When I attacked this sector for the first time, it was about half an hour before nightfall and I waited (in real time mode) until it was dark. This way, it's easier to stay out of sight of the opponents who are inside the buildings and not moving around.

I would kill the patrolling enemies as well as those on the roofs first. When the streets are empty except for your mercs, try to take out the guys in the buildings one by one.

If you know there's an enemy behind a window and you have plenty of ammunition, you can (burst)fire through that window until *something* happens. With a bit of luck, the enemy will suffer a slight injury and might leave his post or at least move. This can also be useful when one of your mercs is close to a building and you don't know if an enemy is hiding inside. Fire through the window with a merc who is far enough away not to be seen and wait if the other merc hears any noises afterwards.

The way I remember this sector, it required a lot of patience if you wanted to clear the sector. Depending on your starting position within the sector, you could just let your mercs sneak to the northern corner of the complex and then try to get through the fan when it stops for a few turns. You will probably be noticed once you're close to the fan but might be able to get inside before there are too many enemies.
Thanks. Not clearing an area is something I didn't consider, but it makes sense. There are many good drops in this area though.

I made another attempt, and finally cleared the area, but Manuel, my guide, died. Oh well, at least that sector is finished now. Reward: another sniper rifle. Probably worth it, but sad.

Here's the tactic if anyone's interested:
All my mercs used the tunnel at night (around 3). The building was lighted, so I did not use the door, and blew up the walls instead. Once the wave of rushing soldiers were dealt with, I used my best merc (custom at level 8) to clear the rest of the area with a silent rifle, mostly from roof tops. There were angles where I could kill enemies inside buildings from roof tops even. It all went well until the very last building where my custom merc was surprised and shot several times. So I used Manuel to sneak from behind while my first merc made a lot of noise, but unfortunately, Manuel was killed despite that. The problem is that, even when I threw a bomb and wounded the enemy, turn based combat wouldn't start.
