In jagged Alliance 2 version 1.12, using Stracciatella, when there are too many dead and you offer a renew to one of your mercenary, he will refuse to renew his contract, but if one of his friend is in the team he will accept to stay, but there is a problem: for a while this method no longer works no matter how many deaths in my team the merc continues to refuse the renewal even if his friend is already in the team I play on stracciatella and I do not know if it is a bug or not.

I remember that before that worked with Grizzly and Shadow for example, someone has the same problem as me? Or did I do something wrong? I remember perfectly that these quotes were triggered but since I launch the game under Stracciatella, impossible to trigger it. Even under the basic game of the Gog version without mod, these quotes never appeared.

Maybe there is a reputation system like in Jagged Alliance 1, to know if the mercenaries will accept my offer or not, at least if such a system exists in J.A. 2 I never found it.

Did you try boosting their pay by 25% before contract renewal?
That was mentioned in the JA 1 manual as a basic tip.

Thank you for the reply, increase their pay? In JA2 it is impossible to increase their pay when there are too many deaths because this option exists only in JA1 and Deady Games.

But for information for my dialogue history I had researched with the vanilla version of JA2 and the dialogue normally triggers so this is a bug/problem of Stracciatella.

For those who do not know even if you already have too many deaths to your credit, and that a merc refuses to renew his contract, here is a method: it takes in fact wait a few days, generally 2 days and after him ask again , For example if you have a collection of 8 dead to your assets using this method a Merc like Grizzly
Will nevertheless agree to resign a contract with you, be careful nevertheless this method will not work with all mercenaries ... as you can imagine with such a number of deaths and beyond it will be impossible to recruit (or to renew its Current contract) a merc.

Small off-topic always on JA2: Did you know that on the screen of the AIM the mercs end up losing patience if you make them wait too long? This triggers a quote that I discovered some time ago and of which I did not even suspect the existence, it is crazy what one can discover even after several years on a game.
Sorry that the issue you encountered was a bug with the Stracciatella remake.

I'm still plodding through Jagged Alliance 1, haven't touched any of the expansions or Jagged Alliance 2 yet.
The quality of life improvements from the follow up games should be nice, and I sort of enjoy that there isn't many strategy guides for JA1.

What is the quote you discovered from annoying the Mercs?
Yes it is just a pity that it does not work perfectly but nevermind.

In this case I can only wish you one thing: Welcome to the world of Jagged Alliance, JA1 and JA2 are really exciting, a good advice: put your hand as quickly as possible on a magnum or a shotgun, that way your mens can shoot further and will be a little more accurate in their shooting.

For the quote here some:

Magic
"Whatcha think? Your face is worth staring at? I got a TV, man... think I'll go see what's on. Later!"

Scully
"I don't have this much time, mate. Nobody does! Gotta go."

Reaper
"when you really need me, I'm sure you'll call."

Shadow
"This isn't a chat line. Try me again when you know what you need."

And if you want a more complete one:

If you ever have a question with the series of Jagged Alliance do not hesitate to post, I would be happy to answer you JA being my favorite series for a long time.

Good hunting and good massacre. ;)

Seriously, it's the voice acting that makes these games so amazing. If the mercs were just numbers it would still be a solid tactical game, but with the voice acting... everyone got a personality. It's one of my best games ever.

I played JA1 millions of times since when it came out mid 90s till college (mid early 2000s). Still waiting to do UB and JA2, but I don't have so much time now and a much bigger backlog :(

(Sorry for the offtopic in your thread, but those quotes reminded me that I should play JA2 someday).
No problem, I love to talk about JA2, yes the voices are amazing, it reminds me of an anecdote: in one of my parts I had sent my mercenary, MD in an unexplored area, (my other men were staying at the And suddenly I found myself with three or four enemies spotted at the same time!

At that moment I was very afraid for MD, I was really immersed and with his quote it reinforced even more my feeling of panic, finally this mercenary, had only a few wounds, strangely all the enemies not reacted. (So much the better for me eh.)

Since we're all cool with hijacking this thread apparently - totally agree the voice acting is top notch, but it's the overall personalities and how they're coded that's so satisfying.

Not only do they have "like" and "dislikes", but mercs will sometimes hate/like someone immediately, while other times this only becomes apparent as it goes on - and the quotes that go along with these events are done so well it seems more realistic than many other games, let alone a game that is first and foremost a tactical/strategy game with RPG elements.

My favourite is that MERC guy who is "just out of rehab" - he's got great stats as a medic IIRC and is dirt cheap, so of course it's someone you get. I was pretty much blown away by the detail of this game when I suddenly found bizarre transactions in my account log - and then it turned out this guy had had a "relapse", so his stats were all shot. On top of that, he had consumed my adrenaline supplies, then afterwards bought drinks from my account from the local pub (where I had unwisely decided to the team he was in). He even had a bottle of whiskey held in his hand while he was on the ground asleep!

Then his dialogue changed such that his confirmation responses went from "Yes man, er, SIR!" to "Whatever, man..."
I ended up firing him, then later Speck gave me a rebate for the time that he was in "relapse" mode.

That right there is an amazing amount of detail that I didn't expect, and that is really rare these days even for games that are supposedly more "RPG" than strategy/tactics titles.

Very true.
